Beyond the Baseline Podcast: Sportscaster Ted Robinson
On this week's episode of the SI Tennis Beyond the Baseline Podcast, Sports Illustrated executive editor and host Jon Wertheim talks with sportscaster Ted Robinson.
A play-by-play announcer for the NFL's San Francisco 49ers, Ted Robinson is also known for his work with NBC and Tennis Channel, where he has covered major tournaments for more than 25 years. After covering the French Open for both networks, Robinson returned home to California and joins the podcast to talk about his experience at Roland Garros this year. The pair discusses the weather in Paris, the tournament's need for covered courts, how the organizers handled the scheduling and more. Robinson also comments on Serena Williams and Novak Djokovic's performance and shares stories and insight from the booth.
Robinson also talks about what it's like to cover a match, specifically a Serena match, and how he got his start in covering tennis. He also talks about where he sees tennis in the sports landscape, how he prepares to call a match, his broadcasting experience and more.
