Victoria Azarenka announced Friday she is expecting her first child and will miss the rest of the season.
“While recovering from the knee injury that I sustained at Roland Garros, I received news from my doctor that my boyfriend and I are going to become parents at the end of this year,” Azarenka said in a statement. “We couldn’t be happier and feel very blessed to begin this exciting journey of building a family together.”
Azarenka, who turns 27 later this month, won the Australian open in 2012 and 2013, and is a two-time runner-up in the U.S. Open. She exited the French Open in the first round this year after being forced to retire in her first match with a knee injury.
Azarenka said she expects to resume her tennis career after she has her child.
