Serena Williams on Potential Tennis Comeback: ‘For Now, No’
Serena Williams has yet to formally say that she is retired from the sport of tennis since she said she was “evolving” away from the sport after the U.S. Open in September. On several occasions she even hinted at a return, but in her latest interview she appeared to shut down any notion of her return to the sport—at least any time soon.
While appearing on CBS Mornings with Gayle King, she was asked whether “the door was open just a sliver” when talking about a return to tennis.
“It’s hard to say,” she said at the 6:28 mark of the feature. “I would say no. For now, no. I’ve literally given my whole life to tennis and it’s time for me to give my life to something else.”
When speaking on a panel at TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco back in October, the 41-year-old took over headlines when she she is not “retired.”
“I am not retired,” Williams said in October 2022, via The San Francisco Standard. “The chances [of me returning] are very high. You can come to my house and [see] I have a court.”
