Highlights: Sofia Kenin Won Her First Match at the Credit One Bank Invitational

Kenin, the 2020 Aussie Open Champion, won in straight sets in the first match since the coronavirus shutdown

Highlights from the WTA's return in Charleston, S.C. including a win for the 2020 Australian Open Champ Sofia Kenin, who defeated Alison Riske in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1.

The Credit One Bank Invitational kicked off a special team event Tuesday and is the first event to give WTA players a chance to compete since the coronavirus lockdown.

In her first match since March, the Aussie Open winner rolled past fellow countrywoman Riske to put Team Peace on the board first, before Canadian Leylah Fernandez evened things up for Team Kindness by beating Emma Navarro Tuesday evening in the rain-shortened first day of the event.

"I just tried to focus on first just staying healthy and just working on my game the best I can," Kenin told Tennis Channel following the match. "I knew I didn't have a lot of match play after my last tournament, so I just tried to take my time and play my aggressive gameI tried to not show it but I'm trying to be a perfectionist."

Danielle Collins was leading Amanda Anisimova 4-1 in the first set when their match was postponed due to the inclement weather.

The contest pits two teams -- Team Peace vs. Team Kindness -- against each other in match play. Points are awarded for wins in individual matches, and those points will increase with each successive day.
