Just over a month after her strong showing at the U.S. Outdoor Championships in July, former LSU track and field star Sha’Carri Richardson collected the biggest win of her career with a record-breaking performance in the 100-meter sprint at the world track and field championships in Budapest on Monday.

Richardson clocked a time of 10.65 seconds—the fastest in the event’s history—to win the gold medal. It was her first time competing at the world championships, and her performance in the final represented the fastest 100-meter time of her career.

Jamaicans Shericka Jackson (10.72 seconds) and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (10.77) rounded out the podium.

Following her stellar college career, Richardson won the women’s 100-meter sprint at the U.S. Olympic trials in 2021. Shortly afterward, she was suspended for one month by the United States Anti-Doping Agency after testing positive for marijuana, making her ineligible to compete at the Tokyo Games that summer. Now, she holds the title as the world’s fastest woman.
