With just three races to go until the NASCAR Playoffs begin, every lap of today’s Federated Auto Parts 400 from Richmond Raceway is vital in helping determine a champion. Kyle Larson, who enters today fifth in the NASCAR Cup Series points standings, won his fourth pole position of the season, and comes into this race aiming for his first win since Fontana back in February. This marks the second straight year Larson will start on the pole at Richmond.

Series points leader Chase Elliott, the 2020 champion, comes into this race with a 119-point lead over Ryan Blaney after a stretch where he finished in the top two in five consecutive races. Elliott has not finished in the top 10 in either of his last two races but had success at Richmond in 2021 leading 58 laps and finishing fourth.
Two-time winner of this race Martin Truex, Jr will start sixth as he goes for his second-straight win at the 0.75-mile D-shaped oval. Truex, Jr. led 80 of the 400 laps in the win last year and is still looking for his first win of 2022.
Denny Hamlin will start third today and hopes to experience a better finish than last season when he dominated winning both stage one and stage two, led a race-high 197 laps, but ended up finishing second to Truex, Jr. who led the final 50 laps.
Ross Chastain, currently third in the points standings, will start today’s race in third looking for his first top 10 finish since placing eighth at New Hampshire three weeks ago.
