COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) Keenan Robinson, twice the head athletic trainer for the U.S. Olympic swimming team, has been hired by USA Swimming for the new position of high performance director for the national team.

His duties announced Thursday include providing information, programs and services to help coaches and athletes optimize performance.

Robinson will manage USA Swimming's high performance staffing at key meets and camps; oversee the national governing body's Sports Medicine and Science Network; provide individualized national team coach and athlete support; and manage the competition and performance support at domestic and international meets.

Robinson served as head athletic trainer at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics and the 2012 London Games. He joins USA Swimming from Arizona State, where he worked with Olympic champion Michael Phelps and was a key adviser to Phelps' longtime coach, Bob Bowman.

Robinson is married to 2004 Olympic swimmer Kalyn Keller.
