Pokémon Presents February 2024 predictions
Contents
A new Pokémon Presents is upon us, and it shall bring news of new Pokémon anime, video games, and shows. At least that's the hope. The last Pokémon Presents included the announcement of Path to the Peak and Paldean Winds, along with previews for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet DLC among other things.
The upcoming Pokémon Day is going to be a big one, as it's the 28th anniversary of Pokémon: Red and Blue, so expect some pretty big announcements.
Here’s everything we think will be announced in next week’s Pokémon Presents.
Pokémon Presents: new game predictions
No Pokémon Presents is complete without announcements for new games, or at least new releases of older games. The announcement teaser for the event includes music from Pokémon Red and Blue, which has led fans to speculate that those games may be on their way to the Nintendo Switch. Whether the games arrive on Switch via stand-alone releases or through NSO remains to be seen.
What about mainline Pokémon games then? Well, the announcement of a new title is unlikely, but there is enough information out there to predict where the next game might take us. Pokémon Legends: Arceus was a refreshing take on the franchise’s signature gameplay, receiving positive reviews worldwide. A new Legends game is a likely candidate, perhaps taking place in the Johto or Unova regions. The same could be said for a new Pokémon Let’s Go installment, and given the inclusion of Unova in Scarlet & Violet, it’s a very likely possibility. Who knows, maybe The Pokémon Company will surprise us with a new Kalos game?
Pokémon Presents: live-service predictions
Like last year’s event, the upcoming showcase is expected to include announcements for The Pokémon Company’s live-service games. These include new additions to games like Pokémon Go, Pokémon Unite, Pokémon Masters EX, Pokémon Café Remix, and Pokémon Sleep. There’s also a chance that we get updates on TCG Live.
Given how many updates have been shipped for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, a new DLC for the game wouldn’t be out of the question. The game already includes Mystery Gift giveaways and tera raid events, so more of those are always welcome. Last year saw the addition of a Mewtwo event, so expect something similar. Fans are also expecting an announcement for the seven-star tera raid event, so that’s something to look out for.
Pokemon Scarlet & Violet DLC: every new Pokemon
Pokémon Presents: movie and TV predictions
It has been a while since we got a Pokémon movie. The last major film to be released in theatres was Pokémon: Detective Pikachu, and we just recently had Pokémon Concierge released on Netflix. A second season of the show has been confirmed to be in production, so what other announcements could we get at the event?
Given the record-breaking success of The Super Mario Bros. movie, and other video game adaptations doing well, it’s hard to believe that a Detective Pikachu 2 announcement isn’t imminent. The first film made over $450 million USD at the box office, and we know that a sequel is in the works with director Jonathan Krisel attached to the project. An official cast and release date announcement may be too much to ask, but a fan can dream.
Pokémon Presents: World Championships predictions
There have already been reports of the 2026 WC taking place in San Francisco, so expect more updates on the Pokémon World Championships 2024 at the event to keep the focus on the present.
This year’s championship will take place in Honolulu, Hawaii. The three-day event will have a prize pool of $2 million USD, with competitive tournaments for Pokémon Go, Pokémon Unite, Pokémon TCG, and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
