It’s easy, really, once you learn what’s important to the caretaker Blum. Check the notes and calendar in the room. One note in a drawer says that Blum has been accepted into the Cult of the Tree, and will be admitted after the next new moon. Check Blum’s diary, and you’ll see he uses European date format (Day/Month/Year) and received the letter on 15/08.

In case you need a reminder, August is the eighth month, and according to the calendar the New Moon is on August 16th, meaning the admission for Blum must’ve been August 17th at the earliest. Therefore the password is 170823.
