The 12 best video games releasing in February 2024

It's been a packed start of the year for video game releases

Last month set 2024 for a strong start when it comes to new video games, with Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, Palworld, Tekken 8, and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth all exceeding expectations, and February 2024 feels even more stacked with great new titles.

It used to be that February was a quiet month for gaming, but in recent years, massively popular games like Elden Ring and Hogwarts Legacy have changed this, and the second month of this year is bringing its fair share of long-awaited titles.

Final Fantasy 7 fans will be treated to the second act of the Remake trilogy, while pirate wannabes will finally get that Assassin's Creed: Black Flag 4 seafaring spin-off they've been waiting for since at least 2017.

Speaking of long-awaited games, Rocksteady's first title in the Batman universe since 2015's Arkham Knight is just around the corner, and some fans are even playing it already.

Persona 3 receives yet another great but incomplete version, as JRPG fans are also getting Granblue Fantasy: Relink.

That's just half of the games in store this month, so let's have a look at the full list of the 12 best video games releasing in February 2024.

Granblue Fantasy: Relink

Cygames
  • Release date: February 1
  • Platforms: PS5, PS4, PC

Granblue Fantasy: Relink brings the successful mobile gacha game into the PC and console space, transforming it from a turn-based game into a fully-fledged action JRPG.

The success of the mobile and browser game has spawned an entire franchise, with a Granblue anime series, now free on YouTube, and a manga adaptation, so fans of the game should be excited to try Relink.

If you want to learn more about the game, check out our Granblue Fantasy: Relink review, and if you are curious whether you need to watch the Granblue anime before playing the game, we've got the answer too.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

Rocksteady Games

It's been almost 10 years since Rocksteady made their last Batman game, Arkham Knight, so to say that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is long-awaited would be quite the understatement.

Kill the Justice League is a different game, though, as it leans into live-service online co-op multiplayer territory. Technically, the game is a February release, but players who purchased the Deluxe Edition are already playing it in 72-hour early access.

Suicide Squad had a rough start, as it was taken offline just an hour into its early access launch due to a bug. Hopefully, the game will move on from its subpar launch, and manage to offer a worthwhile experience. If you're curious about Rocksteady's post-launch plans for the game, you can check out the Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League roadmap.

Persona 3 Reload

  • Release date: February 2
  • Platforms: PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC

Just a year after the Persona 3 Portable port came to modern consoles, one of the best games in the series is getting the remake treatment, modernizing P3 and bringing it on par with Persona 5 when it comes to visuals, stylish menus, animations, and even gameplay elements.

Reload brings some new features to combat and its Tartarus dungeon, plus some welcome quality-of-life improvements. The new release lacks the additional content from Portable and FES, though, as it is remaking the original game that launched back in 2006 for PS2.

Read more about what to expect and whether it's the best way to play the game in our Persona 3 Reload review.

Foamstars

  • Release date: February 6
  • Platforms: PS5, PS4

Foamstars looks like Splatoon for those who don't own a Nintendo Switch. The upcoming PlayStation 5 exclusive online arena shooter, pits two teams of four in a chaotic battle to mark territory by spraying foam across the map.

It also offers single-player and team-based PvE modes, and developers Square Enix have promised a steady stream of new content.

The game launches as a day-one release for PlayStation Plus members, and it will be one of the monthly games, meaning subscribers from all tiers can claim and keep it as long as they are active members.

Helldivers 2

  • Release date: February 8
  • Platforms: PS5, PC

A sequel to the 2015 top-down shooter Helldivers, this upcoming game switches perspective to bring a third-person experience. It retains the Stratagems from the first game, which are air drops of special weapons and utility that players can call.

Helldivers 2 will offer a multiplayer co-op mode for up to four players, and friendly fire is always on, so you have to be careful not to hurt your teammates.

Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

  • Release date: February 13
  • Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC

In this action RPG, you play as a duo of ghost hunters, Duarte and Raith, investigating the titular haunted community of New Eden. Each character brings different skills to the gameplay mix, with Raith using conventional weapons and Duarte relying on spirit abilities. Banishers promises a 'choices matter' experience with many player decisions that influence the story.

Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden was supposed to launch back in November 2023, but was delayed to a February launch to avoid the busy holiday period.

Skull and Bones

Ubisoft
  • Release date: February 16
  • Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC

Ever since Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag released in 2013, fans of the game's ship battles have been waiting for a standalone game that offers just that, with some light RPG elements.

Initially planned as DLC to Black Flag, then as an MMO spin-off, Skull and Bones has spent more than a decade in development hell, so it feels surreal that it's actually launching this month.

The closed beta in December 2023 looked promising, and players eager to try Ubisoft's pirate game before it launches are getting an open beta weekend from February 8 to 11, 2024.

Progress made during the open beta will carry over into the full game for players who purchase it.

Mario vs. Donkey Kong

You start off as one of five regular classes, and eventually ascend into one of 15 Mastery Classes that bring more specialized abilities. With so many options, the hack 'n' slash RPG promises infinite replayability.

Bandle Tale: A League of Legends Story

Riot Games
  • Release date: February 21
  • Platforms: PC, Nintendo Switch

With 167 champions and almost 15 years of lorebuilding, League of Legends has a vast universe with an endless supply of stories to tell. Following the success of LoL's Netflix anime series Arcane and games like Ruined King and Song of Nunu, Bandle Tale puts cute Yordles into the spotlight.

The game is a crafting RPG set in Yordles' mysterious home, Bandle City. When things go wrong, you are tasked with restoring portals that connect the city using knitting magic. With its cure pixel art style and crafting loop, Bandle Tale gives off cozy Stardew Valley vibes but stops short of being a farming simulator.

Nightingale

  • Platform: PC

Survival crafting games are all the rage now, and Nightingale is bringing a polished fantasy world with Victorian aesthetics and a deep crafting system. After Palworld and Enshrouded, Nightingale will set itself apart with a unique tarot card system with portals that transport you to different worlds where you gather resources.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Square Enix
  • Release date: February 29
  • Platform: PS5

The second act in the Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy certainly is one of the most anticipated games of 2024, as Cloud's party will finally leave Midgar and venture into the open world. Rebirth is set to bring new playable characters, additions to the combat system we already know from Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and more exploration, with plenty of collectibles, points of interest, side content, and unique encounters.

Rebirth is a standalone game, meaning that you don't need Final Fantasy 7 Remake to play, but if you're new to FF7's story, you have almost a month to complete Remake and its Intermission DLC first. To learn more about Rebirth, check out our Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth preview.
