Whether you slaughter every goblin you see in the Blighted Village or make your way past peacefully, there are plenty of places that you should stop off and investigate along the way. One of the first locations you’ll find is two large wooden doors leading to the basement of a house, if you can get inside you’ll soon pick up the “Finish the Masterwork” quest.

Completing this quest will get you a new enchanted weapon, so you should follow our Finish the Masterwork walkthrough to find everything you need to complete it.

It's not the only tricky quest you might find in Baldur's Gate 3, so check out our guides for Find Your Belongings and the Gauntlet of Shar too.

How to start Finish the Masterwork – BG3

BG3 Blighted Village basement
Larian Studios

In the Blighted Village along the main path will be some locked doors underneath a house. There are two ways in, as you can either lockpick the door or burn through the floor of the house to drop down. Either way, inside you’ll find a small room with an unlit forge.

Climb up the nearby ladder and you’ll spot a chest – be warned, it’s trapped. If you manage to get it open you’ll pick up the Masterwork Blueprints and the quest will begin.

Baldur's Gate 3 Sussur Tree
Larian Studios

The blueprints say you need bark from a sussur tree to make the weapon, and for that, you’ll need to head into the Underdark, which you can do by solving the Stone Dial puzzle in the goblin fortress.

On the western edge of this area, you’ll find a large tree that branches you can easily walk along. Once you get close enough, a quest marker will appear, marking the spot where you can harvest some bark from the tree. Do so and head back to the forge.

Use the nearby bellows to light the forge, then burn the sussur bark inside it. This will turn the flames blue and means it's ready for forging. Now, all you have to do is place either a common dagger, greatsword, or scythe into the flames. It will come out with a +1 enhancement and the ability to silence foes on hit.
