Accidents happen out there in the field, and we can’t always control when something unfortunate happens to a beloved companion. If you find yourself short on allies during your adventure then never fear, as there are ways to fill out your party to the full four by bringing in Hirelings. These characters don’t have the story or interactivity of the game’s main party members, but they are reliable in combat, so they’ll get you through the game.

We’ll explain how to get Hirelings to join your party, as well as let you know what every Hireling does.

How to recruit Hirelings in BG3

BG3 Withers
Larian Studios

To recruit Hirelings you need to talk to Withers – who is also how to change your class and revive party members in Baldur’s Gate 3 – you can find him early on in the game or he’ll automatically join your camp after your progress past a certain point in the story. Once your main character reaches Level 3, he will offer the Hirelins service.

For the cost of 100 gold, you can pick from one of twelve Hirelings to join your camp. You can bring them into your party, make them wait at camp, or dismiss them completely – though note that if you dismiss them, you will need to pay 100 gold again if you want them back.
