The House of Hope is a place with a lot of valuable items inside of it. Most important is the Orphic Hammer, which you can use to free Hope, whom the house is named for, and potentially the Githyanki prince Orpheus if you feel like betraying the Emperor. Plus, if you were foolish enough to enter a contract with Raphael, you can find it and destroy it here to free yourself.

There can be a high price to pay for entry though, so we’ll explain how to get into the House of Hope.

This is just one of many discoveries in Baldur's Gate 3 though, so check out our guides on how to complete the Gauntlet of Shar, finish the masterwork weapon, and open Necromancy of Thay.

To find the portal to get into the House of Hope you’ll need to head into a shop called Devil’s Fee, which is just north of the Lower City Wall waypoint in Baldur’s Gate. Inside is Helski, who you’ll need in just a moment, but for now head upstairs to the second floor, where you’ll find a massive seven-pointed star painted on the floor in blood. That’s your way in.

How to open the portal to the House of Hope – BG3

You need five items to open the portal:

  • A skull
  • A diamond
  • An incense
  • A coin of Mammon
  • An Infernal Marble

You have a few options here. Helski will sell all of the required components to you, but she’ll charge an outrageous 20,000 gold. Even negotiating that price down to 10,000 gold is a rip-off – although, there’s nothing stopping you from pickpocketing the cash back after paying her.

There is another way though. You see, on the second floor, there are actually all the components you need hidden in chests. It requires some high lockpicking skills, but there is yet another option if you’re not so good at sleight of hand. All you actually need to get is the Infernal Marble from the main chest on the second floor. You can then offer to trade it to Helski for all of the other ingredients.

Once you have all five, you need to place them in the correct spots in the correct order.

At one edge of the star there is an arrow that points out from the side of the circle – we’re counting this as the “top” of the shape. With that in mind, place the items in this order:

  • The skull goes at the top, below the arrow
  • The coin goes on the point of the star next to the skull moving in a clockwise direction
  • The diamond goes on the point two spots clockwise of the coin
  • The incense goes one point clockwise of the diamond
  • The Infernal Marble goes in the center of the star

Once it’s open all you have to do is hop in. Be careful though, the House of Hope is an extremely tough area, and you may have to fight one of the game’s toughest bosses before you leave. It’d be best to at least have a long rest before you dive in.
