Baldur’s Gate 3 Infernal Iron: where to find and how to use Infernal Iron in BG3
Infernal Iron is a rare material in Baldur’s Gate 3, which you will need to complete Karlach’s companion quest and to forge weapons and armor, so you’ll want to have it in your inventory, but it could be pretty hard to come by.
Here’s everything you need to know about Infernal Iron in BG3, from where to find some and what to use it for.
Where to find Infernal Iron in BG3
Infernal Iron can be found in unassuming chests and caches across the world of Baldur’s Gate 3, so in this section, we will point you to the first known spot and update the guide with more Infernal Iron locations.
Infernal Iron in Blighted Village
The earliest location where you can find Infernal Iron in Baldur’s Gate 3 is at the north end of Blighted Village. Moving north from the Blighted Village waypoint, enter the house on your right, just before the village’s northern gate.
In the room to the right, there’s a big hole in the floor covered by a calcified web. Cast Fire Bolt on the web or use another spell, action or item that would get rid of it. Once the hole is cleared, jump through the hole to get into the house’s basement.
Below, you’ll find a chest and a ladder next to it. Leave that chest for now, because it’s a trap, and climb the ladder first.
The Infernal Iron is in a locked chest on your left. You’ll need Thief’s Tools and a character with enough Sleight of Hand as you’ll have to pass a Dexterity Check.
If you try to unlock the lower chest first and fail, it will explode and destroy the ladder, which will make getting to the chest with Infernal Iron above harder but not impossible. One way to still reach the chest is to use Jump, but you’ll need a character with enough Strength to jump this high.
To disarm the trap chest, you will need a Trap Disarm Toolkit in your inventory. If you don't have one at hand, go through the shabby door opposite the chest and climb the stairs. You will find a Trap Disarm Toolkit in the cupboard.
How to use Infernal Iron in BG3
You will need Infernal Iron during Karlach’s quest in Act 2, when you’ll be tasked with finding Dammon, the tiefling smith you first meet at the refugee camp at Emerald Grove in Act 1. When you find him, he will forge a set of heavy armor for you, if you have Infernal Iron in your inventory.
During Karlach’s quest, Dammon will use the metal to repair the overheating Infernal engine inside Karlach’s body. She needs to be in your party in order to do this. Of course, if you manage to kill her earlier in your playthrough, this use of the Infernal Iron will not be available.
Even if you have nothing else to do with Infernal Iron, it is still a very valuable material that you could sell to merchants for gold or barter for other items.
