How to beat Duriel – Diablo 4 boss guide

Duriel has one richest and most varied movesets in the entire Diablo 4, so there’s a chance that after just playing the story campaign you might not feel properly prepared for the task ahead. If you find yourself struggling, it can be worth taking on some of the extra side quests you’ve put off until now, to get yourself some extra levels and hopefully some better gear.

Duriel can do the following in combat:

  • Descend underground and rise up again, striking you on the way out of the ground
  • Melee attack with his two claws
  • Catch you in his jaws, dealing great damage
  • Throw bullets at you from his stomach

You should definitely stay as far away from Duriel as possible, although the boss room is full of obstacles and you might not always be able to do so. He’ll chase you all over the arena for melee attacks, which are undoubtedly the most fearsome and hit for huge damage.

Further complicating the encounter is the boss’ health bar, which has only two sections. This means you’ll have less chance of recovering your own health using his health potion drops, so potion management and avoiding taking damage as best you can should be a key part of your strategy.

Something you might not immediately notice is that you can heal yourself with potions even while in Duriel’s stomach, so if you get gobbled up, don’t give up hope. Most other attacks are reasonably avoidable, as long as you time your dodges well and stay away when you can.

Follow our advice above, and you will succeed in defeating Duriel in Diablo 4 Act VI.
