Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail: Everything coming to patch 7.0
At Final Fantasy 14 Fanfest held in Las Vegas, Nevada, hordes of fans eagerly awaited the first-ever trailer for Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail. Followed by an extensive breakdown of everything that fans can expect will come to Square Enix’s smash-hit MMO’s latest expansion.
Set in the sunny lands of Tural, far to the west of any portion of FF14’s map, fans can expect a whole new portion of the map to explore, in addition to a handful of other huge changes to the game’s graphical engine, we’ve assembled a list of everything announced by Square- nix right here.
Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail release window
Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail is currently slated for release in Summer 2024, with no further indication for which month we might expect the expansion to land. However, Shadowbringers was previously released in July, and Stormblood in June. So, if the game is not delayed, we might see it land in this summer window.
Areas – FF14 Dawntrail
Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail brings a huge number of new changes, including a level cap increase, brand-new quests, and much more. Right now, Square Enix has only announced a scant few details of what you will be able to find in the full expansion. So, just bear in mind that this is an incomplete list.
You can expect to find several new areas of Thual to explore, but one which you’ll inevitably find yourself wandering is the capital city, Tuliyollal. This serves as the “main” city for the expansion, much like Ishgard, Kugane, The Crystarium, and Old Sharlyan before it. But, you’ll also be able to explore the surrounding areas beyond the Indigo Deep. On the Southern portion of an area named Yok Tural, you’ll be able to explore the mountainous reaches of Urqopacha, and the lush forests of Yal T’el.
Plot – FF14 Dawntrail
Director Naoki Yoshida noted that the setting is intended to be like a “summer holiday” for the Warrior of Light and our humble Scions of the Seventh Dawn, but all might not be as it seems. In the idyllic new world lies an intriguing battle for succession within Tuliyollal, which pits your beloved scions against one another on two sides. All of the scions appear to be present, including fan favorites Graha Tia and Estinien Wyrmblood.
The Gold City appears to be related to the race for succession, and regardless of what it actually entails, the name is incredibly evocative.
New Jobs – FF14 Dawntrail
Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail will feature several new jobs, a physical DPS class, and a Magical DPS class. In previous expansions, Naoki Yoshida’s shirt was a sure-fire way to figure out at least one of the new jobs, and this time around, he bust out a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles shirt.
On the surface, this is pretty confounding. Ninja is already in the game after all, but looking deeper, we have a theory of our own. With FF6’s Valigarmanda being present in Dawntrail, other aspects or elements of FF6 might be present too. With the turtles all sporting the names of artists, we might see the return of the Pictomancer, which is a Job role used by FF6 cast member Relm Arrowny. This might be a reach, but it’s one theory that makes the most sense right now.
Raids – FF14 Dawntrail
Players should expect new dungeons, alliance raids, trials, and a brand-new Ultimate raid coming to Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail. However, further details on what these might entail are fairly scant, with more expected to be announced later this year.
Yoshida pointed out, that the upcoming alliance raid will be “even more Final Fantasy” than Endwalker’s Myths of the Realm. Whether or not this could potentially be a hint at an upcoming collaboration remains to be confirmed.
We did get a detailed look at a potential new “threat” in Dawntrail, which could imply that we’re looking at a dungeon boss, instead of a Trial. Valigarmanda is a returning monster, having first appeared in Final Fantasy 6 as a major foe. It remains to be seen if Valigarmanda plays a similarly large role in Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail.
Valigarmanda is known to harness several elements at a time, including Fire, Thunder, and Ice, though, we’ve not seen anything pertaining to if the monster has retained these traits for the upcoming expansion.
For solo players, the Duty Support system is being fully updated, so even if you cannot find a party, you will still be able to run story-related dungeons and trials without having to rely on the Duty Finder.
Side Content – FF14 Dawntrail
For those looking for a healthy dose of side activities, you won’t be disappointed by what Dawntrail is poised to offer. Kicking off with fan heart-throb Hildebrand, who is set to receive another batch of hilarious quests when 7.0 finally lands. Blue Mage enthusiasts will also rejoice, as the class will also be updated for Dawntrail, presumably armed with a raise in the level cap, too.
Furthermore, there is also more content for the more laid-back Warriors of Light, with Yoshida confirming that there is more content like the popular Island Sanctuary in development. Similarly, you can expect new battle content too, but Yoshida clarified that this might not end up being a Deep Dungeon like Heaven on High, but might also take a different form, like the Bozjan Southern Front or Eureka.
PVP players will be overjoyed to know that it is also getting new updates, with Crystalline Conflict and Rival Wings updates, as well as new Frontline maps to encounter in 7.0.
The Golden Saucer will also be updated, with Fall Guys-inspired content, but this will actually be released ahead of Dawntrail, in Patch 6.5.
Beast Tribe – FF14 Dawntrail
There, you’ll be able to find one of the new Beast Tribes in the game, named the Pelupelu, which the keen-eyed will recognize as a returning race for the series, as they were previously present in Final Fantasy X and its sequel, X-2. This race never takes off their masks and is renowned for their trading prowess.
System updates – FF14 Dawntrail
A new expansion also heralds 10 new levels for your character to level up to, setting the level cap at 100. Additionally, you can expect this to extend to all jobs, including crafters and gatherers. Other additional systemwide changes are that you will soon be able to apply two types of dye to any piece of gear, as well as the introduction of eyeglasses as a gear type, which will be solely cosmetic and not affect your Armory Crate. Furthermore, you will also be able to get a higher furnishing limit, but this will be limited to the 7.x patches, after Dawntrail’s release.
Most significantly, Final Fantasy 14 will also be receiving a significant graphical overhaul, starting from 7.0’s release. You should expect better material meshes, higher resolution assets, and reworked older assets, too. However, Yoshida is quick to note that not all gear is being updated at the same time, and not all areas are being updated at the same time, too. Older areas will be getting a facelift starting from Dawntrail and A Realm Reborn.
These higher-resolution assets also carry with them brand-new system requirements for the game, but even the minimums remain incredibly modest.
