How to unlock glamour in Final Fantasy 14
The glamour system unlocks once you hit level 15 and reach Vesper Bay, where the Scions’ headquarters at the Waking Sands is. Speak with Swyrgeim to start the If I Had a Glamour quest. You’ll find her at coordinates X: 12.6 Y: 14.3 in Western Thanalan.
If I Had a Glamour is a straightforward fetch quest. Swyrgeim wants you to get a drink, so head to the tavern a few yards away and get what she asked for. Bring the drink back to get a short lecture on using glamours and a dozen Glamour Prism items.
You’ll probably go through this first batch of Glamour Prisms pretty quickly. However, you can buy more from your Grand Company’s store – the place where you get your first FF14 mount – using company seals or check the market boards near the vendor stalls in any city and buy more Prisms from other players using Gil.
You can cast a glamour on nearly any piece of equipment you own, but the appearances have to match your class. For example, if you’re a Thaumaturge, you can’t make your rod look like a Warrior’s axe.
Final Fantasy 14: How to use glamour
The glamour system is a little confusing at first, as you can interact with it in two ways. Both of them have the same result – a transmog effect that puts the appearance of one item on another, without altering the base item’s stats.
The more straightforward method is using Glamour Prisms to cast a glamour on one piece of gear. Open your character menu as if you’re equipping something new. Select the item whose appearance you want to transform, and then choose “Cast Glamour.” Choose the item whose appearance you want to transpose onto the first item, and that’s all it takes.
Bear in mind that if you change equipment and want to use the same glamour again, you’ll have to spend another Prism and go through the process again.

Final Fantasy 14: How to use glamour plate
Using glamour plates is more tedious at first, but it eventually becomes more convenient. You first need to visit your room at an inn, which you can find in any major city. Interact with the table in the back that resembles a vanity. This table is your Glamour Dresser. The first time you open it, the dresser is empty.
The pane on the right shows gear in your inventory, and it’s probably blank. Click the menu text, choose an armor type from your armory chest, and put it in your Glamour Dresser. This action costs one Glamour Prism and removes it from your inventory and armory chest, which is handy for saving room.
If the item’s durability is less than 100 percent, which it probably is if you’ve used it in battle, you can’t add it to the Dresser yet. Visit a mender and pay them to restore it first.
Open the Glamour Plate screen from the Dresser once you have the equipment you want in the Dresser. Here, you can mix and match item appearances as you see fit using the gear in your Dresser.
With plates customized as you want, open your character pane, and pick the “Glamour Plate” option next to the Gear Set icon. Choose the plate you fancy, and select “Apply.” You can apply a glamour plate in any major city or inn, but not in dungeons, during combat, or in instanced situations, such as story battles.
It’s pretty easy to accidentally mess up your glamour with a plate, so make sure you’re careful before applying one. Applying a glamour plate overrides any existing glamour, so if you want the old one back and it’s not in a plate, you’ll have to find and cast glamour on it piece by piece again.
Choosing “Clear Glamour” will have the same effect.
