A Fortnite patch was carried out somewhat unexpectedly today, and it’s easy to see why, as this wasn’t actually a regular content update. Instead, it was mostly a bug fixing and tweaking update, where the team has addressed some complaints about changes since the start of Chapter 5 and set things up for the first major patch of the season in the coming weeks.

Still, if you want to know what’s new, here are the 5 biggest changes in the 28.01 Fortnite patch notes.

Movement speed increased

Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 1 Battle Pass Skins
Epic Games

New movement animations were added this season, and there was a big outcry from fans about it as the new animations felt a lot slower than the old ones. To address this, Epic has kept the old animations, but sped them up noticeably, helping players reach the same pace they used to and addressing the biggest complaint about the new season.

Locker tweaks

Fortnite Locker
Epic Games

There has been a small update to how the locker looks and works. The place where all of your cosmetics are stored now correctly displays the rarity of your skins and items, as before there was no visual indicator in the menu.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles instruments added

Fortnite TMNT guitars
Epic Games

The TMNT crossover has been running for a few days now, and it won’t be much longer before they start appearing in Fortinte’s other modes. Instrument skins for Fortnite Festival have been added in this update with the TMNT theme, meaning you can soon go full-turtle on the stage.

LEGO Fortnite stack capacity increased

LEGo Fortnite Stacks of Marble
Epic Games

A quick update has come around to LEGO Fortnite that improves quality-of-life just a little bit, as the maximum stack capacity for resources has been increased from 30 to 50, meaning you can carry more resources in fewer inventory slots.

Icy Grappler unvaulted

Fortnite Icy Grappler
Epic Games

The iced-up variant of the Grappler has been enabled in this update. Like the Grappler it can cling to walls and pull the player towards them like a grappling hook, however, this icy variant adds the Ice Feet status condition. This gives players more speed and movement momentum but at the cost of less control.
