It’s been quite a while since the last Fortnite update, with the most recent one coming shortly before Christmas. That’s long in the rear view mirror now and Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 1 finally gets its first major content update. There’s been a lot of content saved up, so we’ve put together all of the biggest changes you need to know about.

Map changes

It seems global warming has come to Fortnite, as they major map change for this update is that the snow has melted on the northern section of the map. This hilly tundra is now much greener, so you’ll have to go out west if you want to play in the snow some more.

Solid Snake skin

Epic Games

The Solid Snake skin which has been locked since the season began finally unlocks today. Like previous crossover Battle Pass skins, you’ll need to complete quests in order to obtain it, so we’ll cover those as soon as they’re released. This isn’t the only Metal Gear Solid skin added either, as Raiden has been added to the item shop.

Super Style and new Lego skins

Fortnite Hope Super Style
Epic Games

Super Style skins are exclusive Battle Pass rewards that offer flashy skins for anyone who has already earned every item on the main Battle Pass reward tree. If you’re over Level 100 then you can start earning these right away.

Outside of that, a bunch of existing Fortnite skins have been given new Lego versions. This includes a lot of Marvel skins like Thanos, Scarlet Witch, Spider-Man, and Loki, as well as a handful of other crossover skins like Ashoka. If you already own these sins then you’ll be able to use their Lego versions in Lego Fortnite right away.

New weapon

Fortnite Golden Tommy Gun
Epic Games

A new drum gun has been added in this update. It’s a rather swanky-looking golden Tommy gun. It’s unclear exactly how this will be used in the new update, but it may be a new weapon for one of the five bosses in this season’s map.

New Reality Augments

As always, new Reality Augments have come in this update. They may not all be implemented straight away, but here they are:

  • Hide and Heal – Gain a cardboard box and regenerate health and partial shields while in a hidable prop.
  • Gilded Survivor – Gain bars as you survive on the island. Gain 150 bars every time the storm circle updates.
  • Countless Crash Pad Jrs – Gain a few Crash Pad Jrs. Gain more when the storm changes.
  • Quickend Camo – Gain increased movement speed while stealthed. Gain a Stealth Camo item.
  • Turtle Time – Gain a TMNT weapon and score some pizza.
