Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 4: Absolute Doom is just around the corner, and the Fortnite servers will need to experience some downtime before we can all get in and enjoy this new Marvel-themed season. Bringing with it a bunch of Marvel skins and a new storyline involving Doctor Doom taking control of Pandora's Box.

We’ll explain when the servers will go offline, and how long it will be before the downtime ends.

Why are Fortnite servers down?

When Fortnite has a major content update, the team at Epic Games need to bring the servers down for a bit so they can install the new content and make sure that everything is working as intended before players get their hands on it.

For the v31.00 update, the servers will be going down at 11pm ET on Thursday, August 15, 2024. Here’s what that means for various time zones around the world:

  • 8pm PT
  • 11pm ET
  • 4am BST (August 16)
  • 5am CEST (August 16)
  • 8:30am IST (August 16)
  • 12pm JST (August 16)
  • 1pm AEST (August 16)

Unlike most updates, Epic has given us a timeframe for this downtime, saying it's expected to last for 5 hours, assuming everything goes to plan. That means that the servers will come back online at 4am ET on Friday, August 16, 2024. Here's what time that is in your time zone:

  • 1am PT
  • 4am ET
  • 9am BST
  • 10am CEST
  • 1:30pm IST
  • 5pm JST
  • 6pm AEST

However, this is subject to change, as Epic may run into issues on their end that mean the downtime has to be extended. In extreme cases, servers can be down for almost 24 hours. If anything like that occurs we will update this space, so make sure to check back here throughout the day.
