Even the best Genshin Impact Diona build won’t be able to make this cat-like human into a damage powerhouse – that’s not Diona’s purpose. What she’s great at, however, is supporting Cryo teams with healing and shields as well as acting as their battery to assist with recharging those powerful Elemental Bursts. Diona is a solid Support to add to your roster.

Her Elemental Skill, Icy Paws, deals Cryo damage to the target and forms a shield around your active character, the strength of which depends on Diona’s maximum HP. You can also hold the attack to fire off additional missiles and gain stronger shields, though this version of the attack affects yourself with Cryo, which can be disadvantageous.

Diona’s Elemental Burst, Signature Mix, causes area-of-effect Cryo damage around her and creates the Drunken Mist effect. This will continue to deal Cryo damage to enemies within while regenerating the HP of allied characters.

Best Diona weapons – Genshin Impact

Your prime concerns for a good Diona build are her maximum HP and Energy Recharge – that’ll maximize the value of her shields and allow you to heal your party as often as possible. Elegy for the End is a great weapon choice as it provides plenty of Energy Recharge and has a very solid support effect that triggers on the wielder’s Elemental Burst hitting opponents.

Here are the best weapons for Diona in Genshin Impact:

  • Elegy for the End (5-star bow)
  • Sacrificial Bow (4-star bow)
  • Favonius Warbow (4-star bow)

Best Diona artifacts – Genshin Impact

We’re driven by the same considerations as above when it comes to choosing Diona’s artifact. To maximize her shields and healing you should mix two pieces of Tenacity of the Millelith with two pieces of Emblem of Severed Fate. That mix will provide a 20% boost to both maximum HP and Energy Recharge.

Alternatively, Diona could act as the Noblesse Oblige carrier for your team, if no one else does so already. A full set of this offers a powerful support effect and is never a bad choice.

You should get the following stat distribution on Diona’s artifact set, regardless of which one you end up choosing:

  • Flower: HP (main stat), Energy Recharge, HP%, Elemental Mastery (secondary stats)
  • Plume: Attack (main stat), Energy Recharge, HP%, HP, Elemental Mastery (secondary stats)
  • Sands: HP% (main stat), Energy Recharge, HP, Elemental Mastery (secondary stats)
  • Goblet: HP% (main stat), Energy Recharge, HP, Elemental Mastery (secondary stats)
  • Circlet: Healing Bonus (main stat), Energy Recharge, HP%, HP, Elemental Mastery (secondary stats)

Best Diona teams – Genshin Impact

Diona is mainly used as part of Freeze compositions and sees action in physical damage teams as well, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t use her in Melt teams.

  • Ayaka (Main DPS), Kazuha (Sub DPS), Mona (Sub DPS), Diona (Support)

This is a very solid Freeze team with Ayaka at its core. Diona creates the Cryo Resonance when paired up with the Main DPS, which helps her damage output, and further assists by charging up her Elemental Burst. She provides additional Cryo effects as well, which causes enemies to get frozen when combined with Mona’s Hydro abilities. Kazuha makes things a lot easier with crowd control and his shredding of elemental resistances. Finally, Diona protects the team with shields and her healing.

  • Role: Sub DPS
Fischl provides constant Electro application thanks to her night raven, Oz, and creates the useful Electro Resonance with other characters of that element.

  • Role: Support
Though not as good as Kazuha or Venti, Sucrose does a great job at triggering Swirl reactions and softening enemies up for the decisive attacks by the Main DPS.

  • Role: Support
Providing fantastic crowd control and Swirls, Mondstadt's mysterious Archon helps out greatly whenever an Anemo character is needed.

Diona has the same role as above in this physical damage composition. With a trio of capable batteries at her side, Eula will be able to unleash her Elemental Burst immediately after it’s off cooldown, maximizing her damage output and being kept safe and sound by Diona.

Diona ascension materials – Genshin Impact

You’ll want to quickly raise Diona’s level when you finally get her, which means that you’ll need to farm her ascension materials. You’ll also require some material to upgrade her talents.

Here’s what you need to get Diona to level 90:

  • Shivada Jade Sliver x1
  • Shivada Jade Fragment x9
  • Shivada Jade Chunk x9
  • Shivada Jade Gemstone x6
  • Firm Arrowhead x18
  • Sharp Arrowhead x30
  • Weathered Arrowhead x36
  • Calla Lily x168
  • Hoarfrost Core x46
  • Mora x2,092,530

Shivada Jade is available from any Cryo-affiliated boss on the world map, such as the Cryo Regisvine or the Cryo Hypostasis. That’s perfect as you require Hoarfrost Cores as well – farming the Cryo Regisvine in Mondstadt will net you both materials. Arrowheads are very common loot from crossbow-wielding Hilichurls, so you shouldn’t have any problems with acquiring them. Calla Lilies are found near bodies of water on the territory of Mondstadt.

The best way to earn more Mora is to farm golden Ley Line Blossoms.

Here’s what you need to upgrade all of Diona’s talents to their maximum level:

  • Firm Arrowhead x18
  • Sharp Arrowhead x66
  • Weathered Arrowhead x93
  • Teachings of Freedom x9
  • Guide to Freedom x63
  • Philosophies of Freedom x114
  • Shard of Foul Legacy x18
  • Crown of Insight x3
  • Mora x4,957,500

Aside from additional Arrowheads and Mora you’ll need to farm Books of Freedom at the Forsaken Rift Domain in Mondstadt on Monday, Thursday, and Sunday. Shards of Foul Legacy are a boss material dropped by Tartaglia in Liyue. Crowns of Insight are a rare item gained from time-limited events or regional reward mechanics like the Tree of Dreams in Sumeru or the Grand Narukami Shrine.
