Get ready to perform some magic with the best Genshin Impact Lyney build, unlocking the power of the first playable 5-Star character from Fontaine in the game. Lyney is all about tricks and fireworks, using his bow and a variety of stage props to make the most of his Pyro vision.

Lyney’s Elemental Skill, Bewildering Lights, deals Pyro damage in the area in front of him. This consumes all stacks of Prop Surplus he’s gained from using his Charged Attack and investing his own HP, increasing the damage of the attack based on how many stacks are cleared. If a Grin-Malkin Hat created by a Charged Attack is on the field when Bewildering Lights are used, it immediately explodes.

His Elemental Burst, Wondrous Trick: Miracle Parade, turns himself into a Grin-Malkin Cat that can move around quickly, dealing Pyro Damage to all enemies it comes close to. At the end of the trick, Lyney ignites fireworks that deal Pyro Damage in an area of effect, creates a Grin-Malkin Hat and gains a stack of Prop Surplus.

Best Lyney weapons – Genshin Impact

Lyney’s signature weapon, The First Great Magic, is the optimal choice for him as it buffs the damage output of Charged Attacks, which Lyney wants to make excessive use of. Based on the current party composition, he also gains more damage and Movement Speed from it, which comes in particularly handy to cover more ground in his Grin-Malkin Cat form.

Here are the best weapons for Lyney in Genshin Impact:

  • The First Great Magic (5-Star bow)
  • Polar Star (5-Star bow)
  • Aqua Simulacra (5-Star bow)
  • Scion of the Blazing Sun (4-Star bow)
  • Song of Stillness (4-Star bow)

Best Lyney artifacts – Genshin Impact

Just like his signature weapon and the recommended 4-Star bows, our recommended artifact set for Lyney is a fellow update 4.0 debutant: Marechaussee Hunter. This new set provides 15% more damage to Normal and Charged Attacks when you wear two pieces. At four pieces, it also boosts the Critical Hit Rate by 12% for five seconds whenever the character’s HP increases or decreases. This effect can stack up to three times. Since Lyney consumes his own HP when using his Charged Attack, this boon will come into play quite often.

You should get the following stat distribution on Lyney’s artifact set:

  • Flower: HP (main stat), Energy Recharge, Critical Hit Rate, Critical Hit Damage, Attack % (secondary stats)
  • Plume: Attack (main stat), Energy Recharge, Critical Hit Rate, Critical Hit Damage, Attack % (secondary stats)
  • Sands: Attack % (main stat), Energy Recharge, Critical Hit Rate, Critical Hit Damage, Elemental Mastery (secondary stats)
  • Goblet: Pyro Damage % (main stat), Energy Recharge, Critical Hit Rate, Critical Hit Damage, Attack % (secondary stats)
  • Circlet: Critical Hit Rate or Critical Hit Damage (main stat), Energy Recharge, Critical Hit Rate or Critical Hit Damage, Attack %, Elemental Mastery (secondary stats)

If you have problems keeping Lyney alive while using his Charged Attack, you can opt for HP % buffs on some artifact pieces, but note that this will come at the expense of damage output. Lyney is probably going to be a bit of a glass cannon that requires constant healing. More HP on Lyney also means that his Grin-Malking Hats can tank more damage for you.

Best Lyney teams – Genshin Impact

Lyney should be counted as an on-field damage dealer. His reliance on Charged Attacks means that he’ll have constant Pyro application, which can be used for devastating elemental reactions. However, a Lyney with The First Great Magic will excel in mono compositions due to the buff to his damage generated that way. Here’s an example for this archetype:

Both Pyro Resonance and The First Great Magic’s passive effect will enhance Lyney’s damage in a team with two other Pyro characters. Xiangling provides fantastic off-field damage as well as various buffs and debuffs that further assist Lyney. Bennett as the premium Pyro healer is there to keep Lyney up and running, boosting his damage through his own buff.

Finally, an Anemo character like Kazuha can bring Swirl reactions as well as elemental resistance shredding to the table. You can replace Kazuha with Venti, Sucrose, Lynette, or Jean.

There isn’t really any viable replacement for Bennett – he’s just that good. Xiangling’s alternatives are Dehya, Klee, and Yanfei, who can all contribute some supportive abilities, but won’t quite be a match for Xiangling’s excellent off-field damage.

  • Lyney (Main DPS), Yelan (Sub DPS), Fischl (Sub DPS), Bennett (Support)

If you don’t have The First Great Magic, a reaction-based composition is a powerful option as well. Yelan and Xingqiu can provide consistent off-field Hydro application to create Vaporize, while Fischl, Yae Miko, or Raiden Shogun deliver off-field Electro application for Overload. Bennett would still be the best healer as he could provide Lyney with Pyro Resonance in addition to his other benefits.

Lyney ascension materials – Genshin Impact

You’ll want to quickly raise Lyney’s level when you pull him, which means that you’ll need to farm his ascension materials. You’ll also require some material to upgrade his combat talents.

Here’s what you need to get Lyney to level 90:

  • Agnidus Agate Sliver x1
  • Agnidus Agate Fragment x9
  • Agnidus Agate Chunk x9
  • Agnidus Agate Gemstone x6
  • Recruit’s Insignia x18
  • Sergeant’s Insignia x30
  • Lieutenant’s Insignia x36
  • Rainbow Rose x168
  • Emperor’s Resolution x46
  • Mora x2,092,530

Agnidus Agate can be obtained from any Pyro-affiliated boss on the world map, such as the Pyro Hypostasis in Inazuma or the Pyro Regisvine in Liyue. Insignia are drops from the Fatui soldiers that have infiltrated all of the world’s regions, so hunt them down for more.

Rainbow Roses are a new plant type you can only find in Fontaine and Emperor’s Resolution is another Fontaine-only material, as you’ll have to defeat the Emperor of Fire and Iron for it, a giant crab found in an underwater cave. The best way to earn more Mora in the game is to farm golden Ley Line Blossoms.

In addition to Pyro Damage, Lyney's Charged Attack also deal Pneuma Damage to enemies using this new Fontaine mechanic / HoYoverse

Here’s what you need to upgrade all of Lyney’s talents to their maximum level:

  • Recruit’s Insignia x18
  • Sergeant’s Insignia x66
  • Lieutenant’s Insignia x93
  • Teachings of Fairness x9
  • Guide to Fairness x63
  • Philosophies of Fairness x114
  • Primordial Greenbloom x18
  • Crown of Insight x3
  • Mora x4,957,500

For the materials already mentioned, check above. You’ll need to visit an as-yet unnamed domain in Fontaine on Monday, Thursday, and Sunday to farm Scrolls of Fairness. Primordial Greenbloom are a boss item only dropped by Apep’s Guardian, so you’ll need to head to the oasis and defeat it.

Crowns of Insight are a rare item gained from time-limited events or regional reward mechanics like the Tree of Dreams in Sumeru or the Grand Narukami Shrine in Inazuma.
