The best armor in God of War Ragnarok isn’t easy to find, but we’ll help you get there with this guide.

Of course, the “best” also depends on your playstyle, but the Steinbjorn Armor is definitely the most difficult to track down. It also offers more protection than anything else you can find.

Here’s how to get it:

God of War Ragnarok: Mystical Heirloom

Later in the game, you can find an item called the Mystical Heirloom. Its description says: “Awakens something dormant, deep down inside of the bearer. It seems important, but doesn’t seem to have any practical application in combat.”

Here's a map image of where to find the Mystical Heirloom in God of War Ragnarok, because you'll need it to get the game's best armor

As you can see from the map above, you find the Mystical Heirloom in Midgard, just south of Tyr's Temple in the Lake of Nine. You must have the spear unlocked because you need to break a glacier to reach it.

If you pay attention to the lore dotted around, you’ll know that the troll statues you sometimes see are actually sleeping trolls that have been put under a magic spell. You can use the Mystical Heirloom to wake them up.

God of War Ragnarok: Slumber Stone

Once you do, be ready for a fight. Defeated trolls will drop a resource called Slumber Stone. Take this to a blacksmith and you can craft the Steinbjorn Armor.

God of War Ragnarok: Sleeping troll locations

You can find slumbering trolls in the following places:

  • The southwest corner of The Forbidden Sands.
  • Noatun’s Garden.
  • The Derelict Outpost in the Lake of the Nine.

Once you’ve beaten the trolls in all three locations you’ll be able to craft the Steinbjorn Gauntlets, the Steinbjorn Waistguard, and the Steinbjorn Plackart.

Maxed out, the Steinbjorn Plackart offers 190 Defence and triggers healing on attacks when you’re close to death. It's easily the best armor in God of War Ragnarok.

The Steinbjorn Gauntlets offer 34 Strength, 85 Defence and give moderate chance to stun enemies when you take a hit.

The Steinbjorn Waistguard offers 119 Defence and stacks with the stun buff on the gauntlets.
