Helldivers 2 FAQ: Every important question, answered
Helldivers 2 Scout Strider locations
Scout Striders are automaton enemies, so they only live in systems controlled by automatons. You won’t find them in Terminid territory. Your galactic war map marks automaton territories in red, and from my experience, any planet or mission under automaton control has the same set of enemies.
What makes the difference is your chosen mission difficulty. Scout Striders only start appearing on medium difficulty, and they show up on all higher difficulty missions after that. If you’re just starting Helldivers 2, you’ll need to complete one Trivial-ranked mission and one Easy-ranked mission to unlock Medium. That takes maybe 30 minutes or so if you don’t spend time exploring.
Scout Striders are large walking machines – a big, metal box on two legs, piloted by another robot. If you’ve seen Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back or Return of the Jedi, it’s essentially a (barely) legally distinct AT-ST.
The Scout Strider daily order tasks you with defeating 20 Scout Striders. While you can guarantee at least one or two at a mission's extraction point, check around bases and optional objective points for more.
Helldivers 2: How to kill Scout Striders
Actually defeating the Scout Striders takes a bit of strategy. They’re heavily armored enemies, and unlike the chainsaw-wielding robots with armor, no amount of fire from normal weapons will pierce the Scout Strider’s front plates. Some missions have tank guns you can use to launch rockets at a Scout Strider, which will instantly destroy them.
If you don’t have an anti-tank gun, you’ll have to attack it from behind or get creative. The Orbital Strike Stratagem blows up a Scout Strider on impact, and if you get the positioning right, you can use the Incendiary Minefield Stratagem to do the same thing. That method is a little more dangerous, since you’ll have to lure it into the minefield.
If all else fails, chuck a grenade in the general vicinity behind a Scout Strider, and let it do the job. These enemies don’t move quickly, so they’re less likely to outrun a grenade than your average robot.
