Hogwarts Legacy Beast Breeding guide: how to breed every beast
Contents
Hogwarts Legacy has a fairly chunky and interesting minigame to play in the form of beast breeding. Not only can you “rescue” all manner of Magical Beasts and place them in lively Vivariums, but you can also breed them to ensure the survival of the species. Or sell them for a profit, if you’re so inclined.
There’s even a trophy available for breeding every type of beast, The Nature Of The Beast, which will be necessary for you budding trophy hunters. If you want to unlock this achievement you’ll need the information in this guide to get you started.
Make sure to read through our other Hogwarts Legacy guides for everything you need to know about the game, including puzzle solutions, item locations, and more.

How to release beasts into the Vivarium – Hogwarts Legacy
Once you have captured a beast in the wild around Hogwarts, you can release it into one of four Vivariums that you’ll have access to in the Room of Requirement.
Once inside a Vivarium, press R1/RB on a controller to access the beast menu. From there you can add up to four different species to your Vivarium, for a total of 12 beasts in each. Perfect for four breeding pairs in each, with space for one offspring from each species.

Once the Beasts are in the Vivarium, you will need to ensure you have both a male and a female from the same species in order to have them breed. Next you will also need to build a Breeding Pen. You should have one in each of your Vivariums.
Once you have a breeding pair of beasts in your Vivarium, you can select the male and female pair you like and have them breed. The process will take 30 minutes of gameplay, and will result in a cute creature being added to your Vivarium.
Breed every type of beast – Hogwarts Legacy
Once you know how to breed beasts, it’s just a case of doing it. Make a checklist with our list of magical beasts above, and cross them off the list when you’ve successfully bred a baby.
Again, the only magical beast species that you cannot breed in a Vivarium is the Phoenix. Other than that, you can get them all. For more information on where to find each beast, check our list of every beast location. Breeding is also useful, as it comes with a decent chance of hatching a Shiny Beast, which is denoted by “plus” symbol by its name.
What to do with extra Beasts – Hogwarts Legacy
When you’ve filled your Vivarium and your Nabsack with all kinds of beasts, you’ll need to start making space. The best way to do that is at the Brood and Peck, a beast shop in Hogsmeade that will purchase your beasts from you and take good care of them.
Unfortunately, Shiny Beasts don’t sell for more money than regular beasts.
