Hogwarts Legacy has a lot of quests to find, especially in the main town of Hogsmeade, but there’s one quest that’s a PlayStation exclusive, and involves you opening your own shop. That’s right, if you want the benefits of having your own shop – which includes a 10% boost to your gear sell value – then you best be playing on PS5, otherwise you’re out of luck.
It’s a shame that Xbox and PC players will miss out, because Haunted Hogsmeade is an interesting quest. It starts out simple enough, but quickly involves you delving through a lengthy, haunted dungeon, with some scares that almost feel inspired by late Resident Evil games. It’s easily one of the most interesting quests and dungeons in the game, and it’s a shame that it’s PS exclusive.
In this guide we’re breaking down everything you need to know to solve the Haunted Hogsmeade dungeon – this will be a long one.
Make sure to read through our other Hogwarts Legacy guides for everything you need to know about the game, including puzzle solutions, item locations, and more.
Starting the Haunted Hogsmeade quest – Hogwarts Legacy
Once more for clarity: this quest is only available on the PS5 version of the game at present. It remains to be seen whether or not it will make it to the PS4, or other versions of the game.
To start Haunted Hogsmeade, visit Hogsmeade during the Winter. You will see a quest to the East side of the town on your map – this will be Penny the House Elf. She basically runs the shop here, but it needs a new tenant. Run over to Cassandra Moon in order to buy the shop – despite all this talk of buying things, you don’t actually need to part with any of your gold over the course of the quest.
Cassandra requests that you fetch her late husband’s belongings from a chest at the back of the shop, and you’ll have to oblige. Return to the shop and Penny will let you in. You’ll need to use Repairo on several items inside the shop. Once you’re done, head to the back room and open up the chest, and you will descend inside. This is where the dungeon begins.
Mannequins in the shop basement – Hogwarts Legacy
Once you’ve descended, you’ll be in here for a while. Move through the corridor, and you’ll find a chest with a single hat in it. Also, the mannequins are moving whenever you look away. Once the room goes dark, use Lumos to light it up again, and walk through the door that opens.
Keep going through the corridors and you’ll eventually come across a double door with two lantern stands next to it. You’ll see the left door is glowing in the center, and the left lantern stand has a lamp in it. You see where this is going: use Wingardium Leviosa on the lantern floating on the right side of the room, and attach it to the stand to open the doors.
Next you’ll come to a foyer with a large locked door, sealed with two bars. To open the bars you need to go through both of the paths down to the left, and the right, each unlocking one of the bars. It’s up to you which path you go down first, but in this guide we’ll take the right path first.
Right path Atrium puzzles, lanterns, mannequin attacks – Hogwarts Legacy
We chose the path on the right which leads to an Atrium area, and we are immediately met with another double door and two empty lantern stands. Similar to the main foyer, there is a left and right path here, and each will give you a lantern for the stand. We’ll take the left path first, just to mix things up.
The world inside the chest is corrupted and, well, magical, I suppose. Blast away the planks blocking the door you come to with Depulso, and inside you’ll see a lantern stand on your right, and a floating lantern to your left. Wingardium Leviosa them together and move through the door.
Take the first door on your left in the next area. Depulso the planks on the door up ahead, and grab the lamp from inside – remember, you can pull items towards you using Wingardium Leviosa by using the D-Pad buttons. Place this lantern on the stand here. Before you leave this section, turn to your left, and use Wingardium Leviosa to grab the first lantern you used in this area. Take this through to the final door, and the path forward will open up.
Next is a quick mannequin combat challenge. Once you finish up, use Lumos to find an open door, and get exploring. You come across a lamp on a table. Pick it up, and take it with you. Go through the door, and you’ll find yourself back at the door with two lantern stands. Place the lantern, and we’ll now be heading down the right side path.
Chess puzzle – Hogwarts Legacy
Walk far into the room and turn left to see a floating lantern, attach this to the stand on your left. Go through to the next chamber, and you’ll find a chess board puzzle. You basically cannot stand anywhere the pieces could attack you from. If you don’t understand chess too well, just look hard at the board and make sure not to step on any cracked squares. You can jump over one at a time.
The next area has two lantern stands, but just one lantern – the same one from the start of this section. Swap the stand it’s on, and you’ll come across a lantern on the table, and the final lantern to get those double doors open.
At the end, Fastidio – the ghost playing tricks on you – will assault you. Dodge his attacks and throw some of your own to get through. Once it’s done, run back through to the foyer, and you’ll see that one of the bars has been removed from the main door.
Left path Library puzzles, more lanterns, mannequin maze – Hogwarts Legacy
We’re going down the left path from the foyer now, into the Library section. Once again, it’s a double door with two lantern stands. Let’s head right first.
You’ll come to a ladder, and the floor will drop out once you find it. Use Lumos to light the way, and doors will open up for you. This next room is a big, endless square. Run, and you’ll never stop running. Turn around to find the exit. After the next corridor, you’ll find a jack-in-the-box next to a mannequin doll. Use Lumos after the lights go out, and you’ll find yourself in the mannequin maze.
The mannequins in the maze will assault you – and often run into walls – but you’ll need to find and defeat all active mannequins in order to continue. Once they’re all defeated, an exit will open up, and you’ll find the lantern. Take this through the next path and you’ll find the Library double door again. Place the lantern on the stand, and head down the left path.
Upside-down room puzzle – Hogwarts Legacy
In the next area you’ll be able to see, from a balcony, that it’s similar to a room you were in earlier, only you’re now walking on the “ceiling.” There’s a lantern stand on the opposite balcony, but the lantern is no where to be seen. Go down and enter the room, walk to the top of the stairs here, and look to your right.
Above the inaccessible balcony, in an alcove near the top right of the room, is the lantern. Use Wingardium Leviosa to bring it down, and attach it to the lantern stand on the balcony you can’t reach. The room will spin back the right way round next, allowing you to climb the stairs and leave.
In the next room, attach the lantern to your left to the stand on the right. Walk through the door, and then grab the same lantern again through the window, and attach it to the stand across the room. This is the final lantern puzzle you need to solve, and this will open up the Library double door.
One more quick engagement with Fastidio in the next room, and then you’ll be ready to finish up the quest – nearly.
Main foyer door, Fastidio's Monster fight – Hogwarts Legacy
Finally, we fight Fastidio one-on-one. Kind of. He summons Fastidio’s Monster, a golem made out of old barrels and boxes.
It’s not a particularly complex monster, and it fights much like a troll. It will charge, swing the weapon on its arm, and toss objects that you can parry. It doesn’t have any particular weaknesses, just unleash hell on it.
At some point the camera perspective will get turned upside down, but just lock on to your foe, dodge, and parry, and you’ll come out on top anyway.
After the battle is done, you’ll be able to chat with Fastidio and escape the chest. Next is to make sure the shop is in order, and that Cassandra pays for the trap she laid out.
Cassandra Mason fight, freeing Penny – Hogwarts Legacy
Once we’re out of the chest and have chatted to Penny, we’ll report the events to Ruth Singer, the local policewoman. After you’ve explained things, she’ll accompany you to see Cassandra, and promptly get flung against a wall. Cassandra Mason is pretty tough, but you’ll be able to take her down.
Once Cassandra is down, you can return to Penny, and gift her a hat, making her a free elf – if you want. Regardless, she will continue to work with you. You can also choose the name of the shop – anything you wish.
With everything done, you are able to sell your excess gear at the shop for 10% more than anywhere else offers. Nice.
