Most of the resources you need in LEGO Fortnite can be gathered without putting yourself in too much danger, but there is one particular item you’ll need to have quite the fight for. Brutes are the massive dinosaur-like monsters that you might have seen stomping around the place. You’ve likely always avoided them as they are ridiculously strong, but you can’t outrun them forever.

Brute Scales are an essential material to upgrade your crafting bench, so we’ll help you by explaining the easiest ways to get Brute Scales – and a method that doesn’t involve fighting any Brutes.

LEGO Fortnite Brute
Brutes are the toughest enemies in LEGO Fortnite / Epic Games

The first and most obvious method is to kill a Brute. These monsters can charge through trees and rocks, have a powerful ranged attack, and can stomp you into dust. There are also three different types. Regular Brutes can be found on beaches, Sand Brutes are in the Dry Valley, and Frost Brutes are in the Frostlands.

The regular brute is the weakest and easiest to kill, but it still won’t be a walk in the park. We recommend bringing a Rare-tier crossbow or better to this fight and lots of arrows – trying to use a sword isn’t going to work. Just keep your distance as best you can and keep unloading arrows into it until it dies.

There is another way though.

If you explore the lava caves in the Dry Valley, you can find white chests around the place. These large chests can contain some fairly rare loot, including both Brute Scales and Sand Brute Scales. You’ll need to get quite lucky, but searching lava cave chests is a much easier way to get this precious resource than fighting the Brutes.
