Lies of P: riddles and Trinity Key doors guide
There are many secrets to discover in Lies of P. One, in particular, requires you to solve riddles. While the answers might seem obvious, you do obtain special items known as Trinity Keys. In turn, these can be used to unlock doors that have unique rewards.
Our guide discusses all the correct answers to riddles so you can acquire the Trinity Keys in Lies of P. As you progress further in the campaign, you’ll find more goodies in other levels, too. Likewise, since you’re already exploring, you might as well check out the Cryptic Vessel locations in the game. Lastly, please be reminded that this article contains spoilers.
How riddles and Trinity Keys work in Lies of P
The Lies of P riddles come from an NPC named Arlecchino, the King of Riddles. While you won’t see him at first, he’ll contact you by way of payphones. Make sure you increase the volume of sound effects so you can hear a phone ringing as you get close enough to the location.
Upon answering the phone, you’re presented a question with two choices–answer correctly and you’ll receive a Trinity Key. Likewise, you might see a notification that affects P’s Ergo, which implies that he’s becoming more human.
From there, you can continue exploring until you see a door that can be opened using a Trinity Key. There’s a chance that it’s in another zone, which is why we discuss the locations in a separate section of this Lies of P riddles and Trinity Keys guide. The rewards from these safes are likely to include various costumes and outfits, too.
Riddle #1
- Location: Workshop Union Entrance - Found along the alleyway as you cross the bridge that leads to the factory entrance.
- Question: “By morning, it walks on feet numbering four. At midday just two, no less and no more. It walks on three feet when evening arrives. And if you solve this, then I’ll know you’re alive.
- Answer: Human
Riddle #2
- Location: Malum District - Explore the level normally until you reach the open area in the slums. As you head to the back alley, you’ll spot the payphone.
- Question: “I stand tall and proud when I’m young and bold. But I’m short and humble once I’ve gotten old. What am I?”
- Answer: Candle
Riddle #3
- Location: Grand Exhibition Gallery - Proceed deeper into the facility until you reach an area with two goddess statues. Head past that and you’ll spot a chamber with puppet displays. Once you’ve defeated the enemy mobs, you’ll see the telephone off to the side.
- Question: “Think about this, whatever it takes: what cannot be used before it breaks?”
- Answer: Egg
The goddess statues
Note that this Lies of P riddle does not grant a Trinity Key instantly. Instead, you’re given a clue pertaining to the goddess statues from earlier. Return to the area and interact with the statue on the right to rotate it. This reveals a hidden panel that has the Trinity Key.
Riddle #4
- Location: Krat Central Station Street - The city of Krat will descend further into ruin later in the campaign. Continue until you’re well past the station and apartment. Once you reach the cliffside alleyway just before the circus arch, you’ll hear a payphone ringing.
- Question: “This blue flower has many ways to take root, but only on man does it ever bear fruit.”
- Answer: Ergo
Riddle #5
- Location: Relic of Trismegistus Entrance - Once you’re in the cavern area, follow the winding path to reach the base of the cliff wall in the distance. There’s another payphone in the vicinity.
- Question: “This one is black and white, a no or a yes: is Geppetto’s creation a killer? Confess!”
- Answer: No
What to do with the King of Riddles’ Surprise Box
Instead of obtaining a Trinity Key, solving this Lies of P riddle nets you the King of Riddles’ Surprise Box. Check the Collectibles tab in your inventory and select it so it can be used. Once you do that, your character will be afflicted with the Decay debuff. You can get rid of it by using an Attribute Purification Ampoule or by interacting with a Stargazer.
At the same time, you’ll also notice that you’ve acquired the Chosen One’s Trinity Key in Lies of P. This unlocks a specific door later in the campaign.
How to find Trinity Key doors in Lies of P
The Lies of P Trinity Key doors have a distinct design: a triangle with a small circle in the middle. Any Trinity Key can be used to open any door, except one (which requires the aforementioned Chosen item). In this section, we talk about the doors that you can unlock, arranged based on when we encountered them during the campaign.
Trinity Key door #1
- Location: Workshop Union Culvert - Upon crossing the gap to the other side of the factory’s interior, you’ll come across a section with a large orange drain and a side path. Check the side path to find this door.
- Rewards: Blue Blood’s Tailcoat and Quartz.
Trinity Key door #2
- Location: St. Frangelico Cathedral Chapel - Climb up the tower section via the wooden beams and ladders. At the halfway point, you’ll come across a corridor with a rolling electrified boulder. Take out the zombified enemies, then look to the right of the waterwheel to spot a ladder that you can climb. Avoid the rolling boulder here, then unlock the door with a Trinity Key.
- Rewards: Black Cat’s Amulet and Monster Sweeper’s Hunting Apparel.
Trinity Key door #3
- Location: Estella Opera House Entrance - Continue through the level normally until you reach the chamber with a wooden beam and a burning chandelier. One door leads back to the Stargazer, while the other leads to the boss’ room. However, if you look below the wooden beam, you’ll spot this door.
- Rewards: Belford Superior Radiation Converter and Quartz.
Trinity Key door #4
- Location: Krat Central Station Lobby - As you move from the Stargazer to the open street, you’ll see this door to your left.
- Rewards: Workshop Master’s Workwear and Carrier’s Amulet +1.
Chosen One’s Trinity Key Door
- Location: Arche Abbey Broken Rift - Proceed deeper into the ancient tower, looping from the exterior to the dark chambers within. Eventually, you’ll arrive at a large room with several smaller sections connected via ladders and wooden beams. At the bottom of this area, you’ll spot the Chosen One’s Trinity Key door.
- Rewards: You’ll have a chat with Arlecchino.
What to do with Arlecchino
This is an important interaction in the game, as it’s essentially the conclusion of the Lies of P riddles and Trinity Key objectives. Arlecchino is chained to the wall and he’s about to die. He then asks one last thing.
- Question: “Are you a puppet or a human being? Which one are you?”
- Answer: Human
Respond by saying that you’re human to receive the following rewards:
- Humanity - This decision affects P’s Ergo/Warmth, earning you additional Humanity points.
- Alchemist’s Cape - Obtained after talking to Arlecchino.
- Moon World Warrior Toy - You can give this to Venigni in Hotel Krat. If you’ve exhausted all his unique dialogue, you’ll earn “The Story of the Prince” achievement.
- Radiant Ergo Crystal - Last but not least, you have the option to kill Arlecchino by striking him down. As far as we can tell, you only receive a Radiant Ergo Crystal.
In any case, these are the riddles and Trinity Keys in Lies of P. Upon discovering all of them, you’ll receive the “End of Riddles” achievement.
