Lords of the Fallen – technically the second game with the same name as the first – is out now, and if you’re been jumping into this brand new Soulslike adventure, you will need to know just one key piece of information: which class is the best to start as?

In this guide we’re giving you a handful of answers to both which class is best for you as a starter player, and which class is best overall – with some caveats. For everything you need to make your class decision in Lords of the Fallen, just read through our guide below.

Best starting class in Lords of the Fallen

Dark Crusader

If you’re on the Deluxe Edition of the game, you should have access to the Dark Crusader class early, and this class is stronger than pretty much everything else on offer, making the early portion of the game far easier for you.

Orian Preacher

If you’re feeling brave, though, the Orian Preacher will be very capable for much of the game. A spellcaster, the Orian Preacher can stay back and deal damage with Radiant spells for a majority of foes you’ll encounter. It has the “Advanced Class” tag, which might scare you off, but if you’ve ever cast spells in a Soulslike game before, you’ll know what to expect.

If you’re looking for the best overall class in Lords of the Fallen, well there are two angles for you to go for.

Condemned

The Condemned is actually the worst class in Lords of the Fallen, but that’s because they’re a blank slate. With such a low level and so few abilities, the Condemned is there for you to shape into any class you wish. This is the true Advanced Class, and only experienced players should try this one.

Radiant Purifier

Have we mentioned that spells tend to be pretty strong in Soulslike games? The Orian Preacher is a solid choice as a starting class, and once you finish the game’s various endings you’ll unlock secret classes, including the Radiant Purifier, which is a powered-up version of the Orian Preacher, complete with even more Radiant spells at your disposal.
