My Time at Sandrock: the best gifts for every pet
If you want a faithful furry (or feathery) friend in My Time at Sandrock then there are plenty wandering the world for you to seek out and adopt for yourself. We’ve got a guide on how to adopt pets in My Time at Sandrock if you need help with the process, but part of that is giving your desired pet as many gifts as you can to befriend it.
Like the people of Sandrock, the animals all have different tastes for gifts, and some gifts will earn friendship with these animals much quicker than others. We’ve gathered a list of every adoptable pet in the game and what the best gifts are to give them.
We also have a full list of the best gifts to give every marriage candidate in My Time at Sandrock, if you’d rather win over a smelly human.
Banjo the Cat
Banjo is the subject of the tutorial mission for adopting pets, but you still need to earn its affection before you can adopt it.
Its most loved gifts are the Pet Sofa, and Rustic Armchair, which unfortunately can only be bought. If you have a setup for producing fiber, then gifting Composite Fiber Threads is your best bet as they will earn you 12RP with Banjo. Failing that, Animal Houses are pretty cheap to craft and earn you 9RP for each one you gift.
Coco the Owl
This feathered friend has some more discerning taste, as it doesn’t love many gifts.
Large Desert Mudfish are its favorite – giving 13RP – which aren’t too difficult if you know your way around fishing. Slightly easier to produce, however, is the Bird Swing, which is worth 12RP for relatively cheap materials. Failing that, most types of fish and seeds will be worth 7 or 8RP with Coco, although given how expensive seeds can be in Sandrock, going the fishy route is better.
Fennec Fox
Fennec Fox is a unique case, as it is only available to people who backed the game’s Kickstarter at a certain level. When you receive it, it will already be at a high enough friendship level to adopt, but you can still give it gifts if you want to further increase your bond.
Fennec Fox can be won over with a variety of pet furniture, like the Camping Den, Pet Tunnel, and Scratching Post, all of which have to be bought from Construction Junction. It quite likes shiny things too, with Rosestone, Spinel, and Opal all giving 14RP.
In terms of something craftable, your best bet is Wind Chimes, which are worth 8RP and can be produced in a Primary Jewelry Processing Machine.
Macchiato the Cat
Macchiato has, to put it lightly, an expensive taste. Its favorite items are the Pet Sofa and Scratching Post which have to be bought, but aside from that it’s also a big fan of Diamonds, which are worth 13RP with Macchiato. Even a step up from that, it’ll give you 14RP in exchange for a Vintage Pistol or Vintage Assault Rifle.
Like fellow cat Banjo, crafting Animal Houses for cheap and giving it to Macchiato for 9RP is the best way to go, otherwise, you’ll quickly run out of resources.
Meerkat
This pet can only be found by completing the Big Game Hunter quest, which can only be unlocked by having a high relationship with Elsie.
Once you have tracked it down though, you can win it over with a variety of purchasable pet furniture like the Camping Den and Pet Castle. However, you might be better off going down a different route, as Meerkat loves several raw resources like Agate, Moonstone, and Bloodstone, as well as Aluminum and Chromium Ore.
Nemo the Dog
The only adoptable dog in Sandrock, his favorite gifts are quite predictable. Once again pet furniture is on the menu, but so are things like BBQ Ribs and Sweet and Sour Pork fishes.
Unless you’re set up for a lot of cooking, you’re better off going down the route of crafting Wind Chimes, which will earn you 8RP with Nemo for each one you gift. Although, if you’re really desperate, Nemo is also the only NPC in all of Sandrock who enjoys receiving Manure as a gift, earning 5RP when you give one.
