Another month, another new set of challenges in Pokémon Go: several Legendary Pokémon are itching for battle and can be fought in the mobile game's 5-Star Raids over the course of December 2024.

You can participate in 5-Star Raids alone or with a group by using up a Raid Pass at a gym or activating the long distance version of the item from anywhere with an internet connection, though your Pokémon will do less damage from far away and you'll get less rewards. The amount of remote raids you can do is limited now as well. Defeating the raids boss in these battles allows you to catch the vanquished foe for your own team and rewards you with items and Candy.

  • December 3 to 12: Genesect (Chill Drive) [Shiny available]
  • December 12 to 19: Mega Latios [Shiny available]
  • December 19 to 26: Mega Latias [Shiny available]
  • December 26, 2024, to January 4, 2025: Giratina (Altered Forme) [Shiny available]

A new raid boss always replaces their predecessor at 10am local time on the given dates, unless otherwise specified.

Pokémon Go: Raid Hours in December 2024

  • December 4: Genesect (Chill Drive)
  • December 11: Genesect (Chill Drive)
  • December 18: Mega Latios
  • December 25: Mega Latias

While Special Research Tasks sometimes feature Legendary Pokémon and there are a few other ways to get certain Legendaries, 5-Star Raids are the most surefire path to add these powerful monsters to your collection and fill out their entry in the Pokédex.

Pokémon Go: Mega Raids in December 2024

  • December 3 to 12: Mega Banette [Shiny available]
  • December 26, 2024, to January 4, 2025: Mega Abomasnow [Shiny available]

Bosses in Mega Raids change at the same time as those in 5-Star Raids, so at 10am local time on the specified day.

Pokémon Go: Shadow Raids in December 2024

  • December 7 to 8: Shadow Regice
  • December 14 to 15: Shadow Regice
  • December 21 to 22: Shadow Regice
  • December 28 to 29: Shadow Regice

Bosses of Shadow Raids remain the same throughout the entire month, unless they’re part of a time-limited event.

Pokémon Go: Max Battles in December 2024

  • December 3 to 9: Machop, Beldum, Wooloo, Phalanx
  • December 9 to 23: Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Krabby, Skwovet
