Resident Evil 4’s fully-fledged remake is out now, and you should be progressing through the game at a steady pace – but we’re still yet to rescue the President’s daughter. But not to worry, as we’re breaking down everything you need to do in Chapter 3, starting from the Mayor’s House, all the way through to the intense fight against Del Lago.
The last guide in this series was Resident Evil 4 Remake Chapter 2 walkthrough.
Make sure to read our full Resident Evil 4 Remake walkthrough for everything you need to find treasures and complete requests like Blue Medallions and Clockwork Castellans.
Heading to the Church – RE4 Remake
Now that you have the Insignia Key you’ll be able to access the locked building in the village, which will lead you up towards the Church. Luckily there’s an easy route towards the Church just outside – the gate can be opened with the Insignia Key, and will lead you straight towards the village.
But before you go anywhere, make sure to check behind the Mayor’s House to find a dog trapped in a bear trap. Free it, and you just might get some help later. We’ll call this dog Huey for now.
Back at the village, you can explore and find some treasures – but you’ll be met with a certain surprise, preventing you from passing through easily. When your path gets cut off, you either must move through the house to the left of the barn that housed the bull before, or go through an underground passage with a ladder behind that house.
Either way, you’ll reappear next to the building you need, and can head through and towards the Church. You’ll also meet the merchant and pick up the Viper Hunter request, which asks you to sell three Vipers. You will inevitably find more than three over the course of your adventure.
Once you arrive at the Church, you’ll find it locked. Make sure to look behind the Church for a new request, which we can solve with our Grave Robber request guide.
Heading to the Lake – RE4 Remake
The side door of the Church allows you to pass through to the cliffside, and inside you’ll find the Lakeside Map – it’s clear that the key to the Church is at the Lake. Follow the underground passage and you’ll find a bunch of Ganados on some wooden cliffside structures.
Fight your way through and you’ll find an arena that’ll be familiar to classic players, in addition to some more Blue Medallions. Before entering the arena, throw in a Flash Grenade to take out all the crows quickly and easily; just watch for wolves.
Follow the path down and you’ll come across another merchant. There’s a Clockwork Castellan in this area. Once you’ve saved and sorted your equipment, head out the left path to find yourself at the Lake. There’s a boat here, but it needs fuel.
Getting Boat Fuel, Fish Farm – RE4 Remake
We’ll need boat fuel, then, so take the path opposite to the boat and you’ll find yourself in a partially submerged wooden maze. Watch for explosives, snakes, and Ganados. There’s be plenty of foes to fight here, in addition to treasures and Blue Medallions to find.
You’ll find your way by getting onto the central raised platform, watching for explosives, and running to the very end before jumping off. The Boat Fuel you need will be in the cabin at the end of the path. Once you’ve got it, simply run up the ladder on your right as you exit the cabin and follow this top path to get closer to the exit. Watch for Ganados running in for a fight, too.
Del Lago boss fight – RE4 Remake
Back at the boat and refueled, it’s time for one of Resident Evil 4’s most iconic boss fights, remade: Del Lago. The fight has been somewhat simplified this time around, as you can now move the boat while also throwing harpoons – a nice improvement, honestly. Just keep avoiding flotsam on the water while harpooning Del Lago at every opportunity, and you’ll get through this fight just fine.
That completes Chapter 3. Next chapter is Resident Evil 4 remake Chapter 4 walkthrough.
