Resident Evil 4 remake Chapter 9 walkthrough
Contents
Chapter 9 of the brand new remake of Resident Evil 4 kicks off with you reunited with Ashley, but now Luis, of all people, is asking for help. On top of that, we’ve got yet another “iconic” area to kick things off with. If you’ve been following the walkthrough thus far, you’ll know that I’ve used the word iconic a lot, but it’s very applicable to this game, okay?
For everything you need to know about Resident Evil 4 remake Chapter 9, just read through our full guide below. The previous guide was Resident Evil remake Chapter 8.
Make sure to read our full Resident Evil 4 remake walkthrough for everything you need to find treasures and complete requests like Blue Medallions and Clockwork Castellans.
The Courtyard – RE4 Remake
The Courtyard is great. It’s a hedge maze, and just like the original game, it’s got a few feral mongrels to fight your way through – there’s a Clockwork Castellan, too. The goal of this hedge maze is to unfurl the three flags to open the path forward. A switch to each is on a tower with a ladder leading up it, with the first in the center of the maze where you start.
To get to the tower in the bottom right corner, you’ll need to head to the left. Follow the path and head towards the back of the maze, and then go past the fountain and hug the back wall. You’ll see the tower ahead, and then a gate to unlock on your right.
Through that gate, time to head straight up to the far left corner. There’s a gate here you can’t unlock by yourself. Run under the stairs and around the corner, and you can make Ashley hold a switch open. You can then run back around and through the gate, up the stairs, and activate the final flag. This will also lock the gate, and force you to fight a bunch of Ganados. Run quickly back to Ashley and clear out all of the enemies on your way. With that done, the door through the Courtyard should be open, and so should the previous one.
The Grand Hall – RE4 Remake
Now we enter the Grand Hall, one of the most expansive areas since Chapter 4’s Lake. In the Grand Hall, we can complete a few requests, including Destroy the Blue Medallions 4 and another Pest Control request.
We need to find the three animal heads to complete the chimera statue in the Grand Hall, and we can tackle those challenges in any order we desire. There’s also a Firing Range near the merchant, and a shortcut back to the Audience Chamber.
First, we’ll head to the Dining Hall, to the left of the chimera statue. This simple enough puzzle will reward you with the Snake Head. If you want a full explanation of this puzzle, read our Dining Hall table puzzle guide.
Back in the Grand Hall, upstairs on the same side as the Dining Hall, we can head towards the Armory. This is a combat challenge against several knights. If you haven’t encountered these yet, you should know that you can parry their strikes. Shooting away their helmet with reveal the plagas inside, which can still easily be taken out with Flash Grenades or a few good shots. This will reward you with the Lion Head.
The final room, containing the Goat Head, is also upstairs, on the opposite side to the Armory entrance. This room features a bridge that retracts into the floor, another Red Monk, and a bunch of plagas. Hope you’ve got a few Flash Grenades. Take out the enemies and work your way up towards where the Red Monk is to raise the bridge again so you can get the Goat Head.
Finally, you can return to the Grand Hall and place the heads on the chimera statue.
Playing as Ashley in the Library – RE4 Remake
After completing the chimera, Ashley is once again separated from Leon, but this time she’s determined to help Leon and herself. In this section, you’ll play as Ashley alone in the library. You cannot fight enemies, but you can run and slow them by shining your lantern at them. On that note, pick up the lantern and the path forward will open.
You’ll come across a door with a grandfather clock attached. This puzzle has multiple solutions, and your solution will be found elsewhere, but for more, check our Ashley Grandfather Clock Door puzzle guide. For now, use the door on your left to head into the main library.
Once in the library, head right to the bottom of the library. You’ll find a pedestal here you can place the lantern on to open a path forward. Leave the lantern for a moment, run inside, and turn the wheel to lower some stairs. Pick the lantern back up, and go up them to find the Bunch of Keys. These will unlock several chests and doors in this area, and you will lose access to these keys entirely after you finish this area.
Run to the opposite end of the library, avoiding enemies on the way. Use the key that doesn’t have an animal on it to open the gate to the elevator, and use it. It’ll break down, and you’ll be able to see Leon behind a gate. This room has another Grandfather Clock, and if you search, you’ll be able to find the solution. Again, for more details, check our Ashley Grandfather Clock Door puzzle guide.
This door leads back down to the library. Avoid the knights and head back to the original Grandfather Clock with the same solution to open it up. Through that door, you’ll find yourself in the Mausoleum. Knights will be chasing you, so run straight down and activate the elevator. Use your lantern to keep knights at bay.
This next room has a locked gate, and a lot of knights. The puzzle here is the same as the animal gate from the Treasury puzzle. Make sure to find the animal gongs you need to ring in advance, otherwise this will get hairy fast. Each gong you activate will wake up knights, so work quickly and run through the opened gate. They won’t be able to follow you far.
Down this last flight of stairs you’ll find another two lanterns and a puzzle. For a full explainer on how this one works, check our Mausoleum Lantern puzzle guide.
Once that’s done, you’ll be able to collect the Salazar Family Insignia, which is no longer simply a treasure. Run all the way back to the upstairs library section and use the insignia on the locked gate before, and you can finally rescue Leon. Make sure to avoid all the knights on the way.
Once Ashley unlocks the cage that Leon is trapped in, Chapter 9 will conclude. Next up is our Resident Evil 4 remake Chapter 10 walkthrough.
