While you’re playing as Ashley during Chapter 9 of the Resident Evil 4 remake, you will encounter two doors with a Grandfather Clock on them. These are a fairly simple puzzle that requires you to change the door to the correct time in order to unlock it, but the “correct” time entirely depends on what playthrough you’re on.

For everything you need to solve the Grandfather Clock puzzle in the Resident Evil 4 remake, just read through our guide below.

Make sure to read our full Resident Evil 4 remake walkthrough for everything you need to find treasures and complete requests like Blue Medallions and Clockwork Castellans.

It’s as simple as it sounds. You just need to change the hands on the clock to the correct time – only, what time solves the puzzle changes from playthrough to playthrough.

You cannot solve this puzzle when you encounter the first door. As outlined in our Resident Evil 4 remake Chapter 9 walkthrough, you must move to the upstairs section of the library, where the other Grandfather Clock door is, and here you can find the solution.

Once you’ve reached the upper section of the library, where you briefly speak with Leon, head to the back of the room and examine the note on the table.

In our first playthrough, this note read “11:04,” and that was the solution. In a later playthrough, this note read “VIIXII” which indicated 7 o’clock, and that was the solution in that run.

From our testing, it seems that the solution depends on your playthrough difficulty.

For Assisted and Standard playthroughs, try 11:04.

For Hardcore and Professional playthroughs, try 7:00.

As a result, you’ll likely be unable to open the first Grandfather Clock door without first venturing through the library and finding the note with the solution written on it. For a full explanation of everything else in this chapter, follow our Resident Evil 4 remake Chapter 9 walkthrough.
