Resident Evil 4 is a lot more straightforward when it comes to herbs than some of the other games in the series. You won’t have to worry about poison resistance or anything like that, so you only need to focus on your health.

Here’s how herbs work in the Resident Evil 4 remake.

Resident Evil 4 remake: herb types

There are three herb types in Resident Evil 4, Green, Red, and Yellow, each with a different effect.

  • Green Herb: Heals a small portion of health
  • Red Herb: Multiplies the effects of other herbs
  • Yellow Herb: Raises your maximum health permanently

Resident Evil 4 remake: herb combinations

Mixing herbs together combines and boosts their effects. You can only use a Mixed Herb that contains at least one Green Herb.

  • Green + Green: Restores five cells on your health meter
  • Green + Green + Green: Restores 100% of your health
  • Green + Red: Restores 100% of your health
  • Green + Yellow: Restores a small portion of health and raises maximum health
  • Green + Yellow + Red: Raises maximum health and restores 100% of your health meter

Green + Green + Green: Restores three times as much health as a single green herb.

Green + Red: Restores almost three times more health than one green herb

Green + Red + Yellow: Restores almost three times more health than one green herb and raises your maximum health.

Red + Yellow: Increases maximum health

Other advantages of mixing are that a Mixed Herb will only take up two slots in your attache case, allowing you to shrink down your inventory by creating more potent health potions.

You can also mix Yellow Herbs with Red Herbs and sell them to the merchant once your health gauge is at maximum.
