The initial Village Siege is one of Resident Evil 4’s most iconic and difficult moments for brand-new players. So, of course, it has been recreated in the Resident Evil 4 remake, and it’s just as tough as ever. You’ve probably had plenty of practice with the Resident Evil 4 Chainsaw Demo before launch, but in case you’re still struggling, we’ve got some tips to help you through.

Read through our tips below, and you’ll be set to take down all of the Ganados in the Village in the Resident Evil 4 remake.

Get the shotgun

If you want to survive the Village section and you’re struggling, then the shotgun is a necessity. This can be found in the building to the left of the Tower, near the bonfire in the center of the village. The shotgun is upstairs, on the wall. Just beware, going into this building will spawn Dr. Salvador, the chainsaw man, if he isn’t already present. You can also kite enemies around the balcony on this building, though beware, the chainsaw man can destroy the balcony entirely.

Scavenger tactics

The village is filled with boxes and barrels you can break open to reveal ammunition, gunpowder, and health items. If you’re struggling, you might just need more firepower, so search around for some shotgun shells inside buildings.

Great bulls of fire

The bull in the small barn to your right as you enter the village is sitting beneath an oil lamp. Unfortunately, you can shoot the oil lamp in order to cause the bull to rampage. This does sometimes happen without your involvement, though.

Keep moving

Some of the Ganados are fast and will keep up with you, but for the most part they’re slow, or any run in short bursts. As long as you keep mobile, you’ll have the edge. Run far away, turn around, take shots, run to find another nook to hide in, turn, shoot, find an exit, repeat.

Melee attacks

You can kill plenty of Ganados with melee strikes. You can stun a Ganado by shooting them in the head or knees, and this will bring up a melee prompt. Melee attacks hit hard, and just might net you a few kills without you wasting too much ammo. They can also stun and stagger a whole horde of close-by enemies, so it’s even handy when being overwhelmed.

Parrying

In Normal mode the timing window for the knife parry is huge, so just tap L1 any time you’re afraid of getting damaged. Honestly, it’s very effective, and will save you more often than not. If you’re going to take the hit anyway, might as well tap L1 as you see it coming, and it might just save you life.
