Skull and Bones goes heavy on its crafting and cooking mechanics, so you’ll often find yourself with a long grocery list of ingredients, resources, and materials you need to get to build ships, weapons, armor, and whatnot.
Crude Saltpeter is one of the many materials in the game, and it is required to build some of the more advanced ships, like the Padewakang and the Brigantine, as well as for some weapons.
In this guide, we point you to the best Crude Saltpeter locations in Skull and Bones, both if you want to buy the resource or pillage it from ships.

Crude Saltpeter locations in Skull and Bones
Most of the Crude Saltpeter in Skull and Bones is concentrated in the East Indies, more specifically in Rempah territory. You will find Crude Saltpeter trade routes in the Strait of Herimau and the Gulf of Nakh, and sometimes further to the northeast around Rempah's capital, Suny, with ships carrying the material along those routes.
Crude Saltpeter can be purchased from vendors at some outposts in these regions, such as Karst Lookout, Parujar’s Cry, Khmoy Estate, Bukit Candi, and more, but stocks are usually limited to 1 unit and take a long time to refresh.
The exact outposts that will have Crude Saltpeter in stock will change, but they are all in the same general area.
If you are looking for Crude Saltpeter to craft a specific blueprint, such as the Padewakang, you can always use the Track Blueprint option, which will create a task in your Journal to gather the required resources and mark current known locations on the map.
How to farm Crude Saltpeter in Skull and Bones
The best way to get Crude Saltpeter in Skull and Bones quickly is to board ships that carry it along the trade routes mentioned above, or to plunder Rempah settlements in the same area to lure more ships.
Make sure you use your spyglass to check if a ship has Crude Saltpeter in its cargo hold before attacking. The rare material doesn’t drop that often if you just destroy the enemy ship, so you may want to master your boarding skills to get more of it.
Also, be warned that the ships in these regions are Rank 6 and above, with Rank 8 Privateers patrolling around and attacking on sight. If you’re still in the early game, make sure your ship is well-equipped, fully repaired, and stocked with food and repair kits.
If you’re not quick enough to board or finish off target ships, they will fire flares to call reinforcements, so be prepared to run away if things go south.
