Skull and Bones’ economy features quite a few in-game currencies, and while you are already familiar with Silver and Pieces of Eight, a third currency, Sovereigns, which unlocks later in the game, could be somewhat puzzling.

Here’s everything you need to know about Sovereigns in Skull and Bones, how to earn them, and the best ways to farm them.

Skull and Bones Black Market: How to gain access to The Helm’s Black Market at Pont Muet

What are Sovereigns in Skull and Bones?

Sovereigns are the third currency in Skull and Bones, which you unlock later in the game, after reaching the Kingpin Infamy rank and completing the contract “A Nose for Business.”

You will get this quest from Yanita Nara, the barkeep of Le Pont Muet at Saint-Anne; it will become available immediately after you become Kingpin. Upon starting the quest, you will unlock the Helm Empire overview screen, while completing the quest will add the Leaderboards tab.

Climbing tiers on the Weekly and Seasonal Leaderboards by earning Pieces of Eight rewards you with Sovereigns. You can access the Leaderboards from your desk at the Smuggler’s Hideout, in Sainte-Anne or Telok Penjarah.

Just like Pieces of Eight, Sovereigns are used to purchase rare cosmetics, furniture, weapons, and armor from the Black Market at Le Pont Muet or Palka Buta. You can filter vendors' inventory by currency to see what's available for purchase with Sovereigns.

Most of the items you can buy with Sovereigns are captain and ship cosmetics, but there are also some special weapons like the Dardanelles Gun, Major Furniture pieces, and sturdy ship armor, such as the Black Prince.

How to get Sovereigns in Skull and Bones

Sovereigns in Skull and Bones are only earned by collecting specific amounts of Pieces of Eight, which moves you up on the Weekly and Seasonal Leaderboards. Spending Pieces of Eight doesn't affect your progress towards Sovereign milestones.

The first reward from the Weekly Leaderboard comes after reaching Tier II by collecting 1,200 Pieces of Eight, which nets you 20 Sovereigns.

On the Seasonal Leaderboard, you start at the Bronze rank and will receive 500 Sovereigns upon reaching Silver for collecting 30,000 Pieces of Eight.

There are two milestones on your way to Silver, at 10,000 and 20,000 Pieces of Eight, which will reward you with 350 and 450 Sovereigns, respectively.

Best ways to farm Sovereigns in Skull and Bones

Because Sovereigns are tied to Pieces of Eight, the only way to “farm” Sovereigns is to focus on activities that earn you the most Pieces of Eight.

Once you’ve reached the endgame, there’s no point in earning Pieces of Eight in the less efficient ways you already know about.

Expand your Kingpin Empire to earn Sovereigns fast

One of the fastest ways to collect Pieces of Eight and farm Sovereigns is to take control of as many Manufactories at settlements as possible, and make sure they are always funded with Silver to automatically produce and trade with White Skull Rum, Opium, and other smugglers goods.

Establishing supply routes between settlements by controlling the Manufactories on both ends of a trade route will give you a trade boost.

You can also do supply runs with your ship and deliver the raw materials, Sugar Cane or Poppy, required by a Manufactory to boost its production.

Owning all Manufactories within a single region also earns you a production bonus. Controlling every Manufactory in all regions of either the Red Isle, Coast of Africa or East Indies areas, nets you yet another production bonus.

Once a Manufactory's storage is filled with Pieces of Eight, you must collect them for that Manufactory to continue to produce and trade goods.

Participate in Helm Wagers to earn more Pieces of Eight and Sovereigns

Skull and Bones Helm Wager
Ubisoft / GLHF

Helm Wagers are PvP events in which you need to deliver your collected Pieces of Eight to a specified outpost while being chased by other players trying to plunder your ship. If your Helm Wager run is successful, you get double the amount of Pieces of Eight you were carrying at the start of the event. You can also sink other players' ships and claim their Chests of Eights.

Helm Wagers are a powerful way to boost your Pieces of Eight earnings and get more Sovereigns quickly.
