What big triple-A RPG adventure is complete without a multi-layered minigame with a surprising amount of strategy, eh? That’s right, none of them, and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’s Holotactics is basically a Star Wars-themed auto-battler that could absolutely be its own standalone mobile app.

Yes, Holotactics is a surprising amount of fun, and you can collect a variety of unique monsters and droids to add to your arsenal of fighters. However, you start with a surprisingly capable team, and you can use this team to smash through all of the Holotactics opponents for a nice shiny trophy.

For everything you need to take on foes in Holotactics, just read through our Star Wars Jedi: Survivor tips below.

Holotactics explained – Jedi: Survivor Holotactics

Holotactics is essentially an auto-battle game, and the way they work is that you purchase characters with a set number of points, and have them do battle against your foe’s team. Luckily Holotactics allows you to see the enemy team before you decide on your own units, which gives you a huge advantage.

The strength of your unit can generally be attributed to its cost. For example, a standard Stormtrooper with a blaster can get taken out very quickly, due to only costing 2 points. It’s only useful when in numbers, and even then, they need something to take the heat. Meanwhile a tough droid can cost ten points, and special, large units can cost closer to 25 points. These will have far more health and powerful attacks, but will likely become the target of all enemy units.

Any points you do not use when buying units get given to you in the next round. This means that on the final round, you should always spend all of your points, but you can save them on earlier rounds if you’re confident that you can win.

Best team compositions and strategies – Jedi: Survivor Holotactics

With the rules of the game in mind, let’s go over a few basic strategies. You should always have a tough melee unit or two to take the heat while at least one ranged unit helps clear up enemies. In general, melee units should go on the front row, while ranged units should stick to the rear. You can select from Empire, Bedlam Raiders, or Fauna Holotactics units, but we’ll stick with the Empire for simplicity, as they’re very versatile.

In early Holotactics games, where you have limited points, the Heavy Assault Trooper is the best ranged unit, costing six points – and this unit can, in fact, be used for pretty much every Holotactics opponent. Stormtroopers will be rarely worth your points, but Stormtrooper Commanders can throw grenades, which deal huge damage to even the toughest foes. If they’re back up by a melee unit to take the heat, they can clean up a variety of enemies from the front row.

A great melee unit is the Shield Trooper when backed up by more than one ranged unit, but the more expensive DT Sentry Droid - Hammer & Staff is useful in pretty much any and every battle. Once you’re onto tougher fights, a DT Sentry Droid - Hammer & Staff paired with a Heavy Assault Trooper can take out most opponents.

Rocket Launcher Troopers can also be used instead of Heavy Assault Trooper, but they’re better when there are fewer, tougher enemies, instead of against large groups.

If you are going up against a large group, then you’ll need more than one reliable ranged unit. If you’re up against Rocket Launcher Troopers or similar units, then numbers are your best bet. A fleet of Stormtroopers on the frontline will shoot and distract foes before they let off their best attacks, and then a strong melee unit can go in to finish them off.

That might be a lot to take in, but for the best results in Holotactics, stick to this basic team composition:

  • Shield Trooper/DT Sentry Droid - Hammer & Staff
  • Heavy Assault Trooper/Rocket Launcher Trooper
  • Stormtrooper Commander (when up against tough foes/large groups)

It’s a simple set up, and you might want to double-up on any one of those listed units in tougher battles, but it should see you through all of the harder fights you’ll find in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’s Holotactics.
