Every Starfield companion ranked from worst to best /

It can get lonely wandering the galaxy alone, which is why it’s nice that Starfield has so many people out there willing to join you on your adventures. While only four members of Constellation are romanceable companions, there are still plenty of people out there who can serve as crew on your ship, all with their own skills and stories for you to uncover.

We’ve gone through and ranked every Starfield companion based on what they offer skill-wise, how grating their personalities are, and how we connected with their stories as we grew to know them.

Check out more of our Starfield guides with our Starfield walkthrough.

Dani Garcia

Starfield Dani Garcia
Bethesda
  • Location: Euphorika, Neon

What’s worse than a grating personality? No personality.

With 20 bespoke characters, one or two were always going to fall in the generic bucket, and Dani is unfortunately one of them. They’re an engineer who likes robots, that’s about all there is to them.

Moara Otero

Starfield Moara Otero
Bethesda
  • Location: Broken Spear, Cydonia

This is a character so forgettable, that I legitimately forgot I’d already met them. I went to find them to write this list and they greeted me like an old friend, thanking me for help I have no memory of offering. They’re good with a gun though, which is something.

Omari Hassan

Starfield Omari Hassan
Bethesda
  • Location: The Hitching Post, Akila

Rank 3 in shield systems is nothing to sniff at, but we found very little to grasp in terms of personality for Omari. They’re a solid crew member, but they don’t leave much of an impression.

Lyle Brewer

Starfield Lyle Brewer
Bethesda
  • Location: Aggie’s Bar, Akila

Lyle’s a reliable person, they're just a bit of a jerk. They think themself something of a survivalist, and while they've got skills, they won’t stop going on about it. It might be your cup of tea, but we could do without the macho act.

Simeon Bankowski

Starfield Simeon Bankowski
Bethesda
  • Location: The Viewport, New Atlantis

There’s nothing objectionable about Simeon. They're a nice guy who you can have a laugh with, and their expertise in sharpshooting makes them a reliable hand. There’s nothing particularly special about them either though, plenty of other companions do their job just as well.

Ezekiel

Starfield Ezekiel
Bethesda
  • Location: Aggie’s Bar, Akila

There’s something we just like about Ezekiel. They're a downtrodden man, but still carries themself with dignity. They have an air of mystery, but will still be perfectly friendly if you treat them in kind. Plus, you don’t even need to pay them to join your crew.

Gideon Aker

Starfield Gideon Aker
Bethesda
  • Location: The Viewport, New Atlantis

My first memory of Gideon makes me laugh, as they stood up from the sofa to reveal they were about a foot shorter than I had anticipated with my camera movement. They turned out to be a pretty pleasant person too, with expertise in ballistics and missiles, two great weapons systems.

Rafael Aguerro

Starfield Rafael Aguerro
Bethesda

While it’s horrible that you have to trade the lives of everyone in the research facility for them, Rafael is someone you’ll enjoy having around. They can be a bit of a strange man, but they're perfect for managing an outpost, proficient in most skills required.

Marika Boros

Starfield Marika Boros
Bethesda
  • Location: The Viewport, New Atlantis

Sometimes it’s just nice to have someone around with a chirpy personality, and Marika always seems to have a smile on her face. They know their way around ballistics and can help enhance the laser weapons on your ship too.

Heller

Starfield Heller
Bethesda
  • Location: Complete the Back to Vectera main mission

You may not remember Heller from the opening mission of Starfield, but they sure remembers you. Once you pick them back up upon your return to Vectera, they're perfect to stick on one of your more valuable outposts, as they can maintain it with ease.

Mickey Caviar

Starfield Mickey Caviar
Bethesda
  • Location: Astral Lounge, Neon

You can have your very own washed-up TV chef traveling on your ship. Mickey’s cooking skills aren’t the most useful, but they're a joy to have around, clearly refusing to let go of their glory days and status as a former celebrity. It’s sad but in a funny way.

Rosie Tannehill

Starfield Rosie Tannehill
Bethesda
  • Location: The Hitching Post, Akila

Some aspects of Rosie might have you questioning their age and maturity, like their prepubescent voice and nose stud that is only worn by teenagers looking to upset their parents. However, Rosie is surprisingly knowledgeable about the medical arts, something that’s a bit of a rarity in Starfield.

Andromeda Kepler

Starfield Andromeda Kepler
Bethesda
  • Location: Broken Spear, Cydonia

People with a story are always more interesting, and Andromeda’s is just starting when you meet them. This aspiring author is working on a book about the intersection of science and religion in Starfield’s society, which sure is something we’d like to know more about.

Lin

Starfield Lin
Bethesda
  • Location: Complete the Back to Vectera main mission

Your supervisor from the game’s first mission, Lin’s down-to-earth personality may seem out of place in this space-faring game, but they could be just the person you need. They're a handy engineer at times, but they can also serve as an expert manager for any outpost you establish.

Vasco

Starfield Vasco
Bethesda
  • Location: Automatically joins you during One Small Step main mission

Robots are cooler than humans, this is a simple fact of life, and Vasco is a cool robot. They may not be the best for combat situations, but like seemingly all sci-fi robots, they can be surprisingly witty in their cold and logical way. Also, they're the only character that can actually say your name – provided it’s on this list of every name Vasco can say in Starfield.

Adoring Fan

Starfield Adoring Fan
Bethesda
  • Location: New Atlantis, only if you selected the Hero Worshipped Starfield trait.

Let’s be honest, we all use our companions to carry stuff when we’re hoarding things to sell, and Adoring Fan comes with extra carryweight as standard. Plus, it’s just nice to be appreciated, and the Adoring Fan will give you almost too much appreciation.

Barrett

Starfield Barrett
Bethesda
  • Location: Automatically joins you during the Back to Vecterra main mission

Unsurprisingly, the top four slots are all the Constellation members, because they have far more fleshed-out stories and personalities than any other companion in the game – not to mention they’re all romanceable. Barret falls to the bottom of the four for us though as, although their headstrong and adventurous nature can be endearing, it can also get both of you in trouble from time to time.

Sarah Morgan

Starfield Sarah Morgan
Bethesda
  • Location: Automatically joins you during the The Old Neighbourhood main mission

As the leader of Sarah Morgan there is a large weight on their shoulders, not to mention a past that she’s not especially proud of. It’s easy to get frustrated at Sarah’s instinct to blame every little setback on themself, but if you help them overcome that it can be a very heartwarming relationship.

Sam Coe

Starfield Sam Coe
Bethesda
  • Location: Automatically joins you during the The Empty Nest main mission

The man’s a literal space cowboy, what’s not to like? Sam’s one of the most complex characters in the game, as one you’ll want to get to know on a deeper level. While they can be reckless and adventurous to a fault, they also have a strong sense of morals and responsibility due to their daughter and complex relationship with the other members of their family. It makes them very easy to love.

Andreja

Starfield Andreja
Bethesda
  • Location: Automatically joins you during the Into the Unknown main mission

There’s something about NPCs that play hard to get that draws us in. Andreja is a secretive person and they don’t talk about themself openly until you get very close to them. Still, their story is deeply interesting because of it, and the core conflict of their beliefs versus their morals is a rabbit hole worth going down.
