Super Mario RPG got a remake on the Nintendo Switch last week, and fans have been absolutely loving it. It’s a faithful, by-the-book remake with just enough quality of life features to feel modern without abandoning the charm of the original. Thankfully, most of the puzzles that were in the original are present here too, including the Toadofsky melodies in Tadpole Pond.

You’ll unlock three melodies to play for Toadofsky throughout the game, and each of them needs to be played back for the fungal composer so he can finish his symphony.

This guide will tell you all the frog melody solutions, when you can play the songs to Toadofsky, and what rewards you get for finishing each puzzle.

Super Mario RPG: First Toadofsky melody

The first song you can play for Toadofsky will be available as soon as you reach Melody Bay in Tadpole Pond, shortly after Mallow joins your party and you traverse the Midas River. A tadpole on the path to Melody Bay will tell you about the song, but we’ve got the solution below.

As a quick note, we’ll be using simple numbering for this, starting at the top position for the tadpoles as 1 and ending at the bottom position as 7.

The first Toadofsky song looks like this:

In our numbering scheme, that’s 6, 5, 1, 2, 3, 2, 3, 2.

Super Mario RPG: Second Toadofsky melody

The second song will be unlocked quite a bit further in the game, after you’ve completed pretty much everything in Moleville. You’ll have to rescue Dyna and Mite from the Moleville Mines, and complete the mine cart section, after which you’ll have a little bit of dialogue.

After that, you can fast travel back to Melody Pond to enter the second song for Toadofsky:

That’s 1, 3, 6, 3, 2, 5, 4, 3.

Super Mario RPG: Third Toadofsky melody

The third and final song you’ll need to play at Melody Bay will come after you’ve visited Monstro Town, the town filled with monster residents that are surprisingly nice. To unlock this song, you’ll need to visit the Elder’s house in Monstro Town and go upstairs, where you’ll see a star with eyes. Talk to the star and you’ll see it perform a little dance along to a song.

After you’ve seen the star do its thing, travel once more back to Tadpole Pond and move along to Melody Pond, where you’ll perform the third and final frog song:

With numbers, that’s 5, 4, 3, 2, 6, 3, 2, 1.

After this, you’ll be asked to freestyle and perform your own song. Feel free to put in whatever you like — even if you have no musical talent, Toadofsky will polish it up and turn it into a symphony for the ages.

Super Mario RPG: Frog melody rewards

Each song correctly performed for Toadofsky will award you a membership card for The Juice Bar, a store in the top-left corner of Tadpole Pond that sells some of the best healing items in the game. At first, you’ll only be able to buy Tadpola Cola, which restores the whole party’s HP by 30 points, but earning the membership cards gives you access to more items:

  • Alto Card: Frogleg Cola (80 HP to whole party)
  • Tenor Card: Finless Cola (150 HP to whole party)
  • Soprano Card: Croaka Cola (All HP to whole party)

These are fantastic items, surprisingly cheap, and are more or less the only way to heal the whole party all at once. By the end of the game, you should be able to afford as many Croaka Colas as you want, which will come in very handy for the final boss and subsequent post-game rematches.
