The MLB The Show 24 ratings are in, and the top 10 is a mix of big shakeups and predictable maintenance. The likes of Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani are, as expected, top of the list once more in the sports game, but some unlikely faces found themselves with much better ratings than they did last year.

We’ve rounded up the 10 highest MLB The Show 24 ratings below, with a bit about what makes each placement a good fit – or not, as the case may be.

10 Best MLB The Show 24 Player Ratings

Mike Trout (Outfield, L.A. Angels) – 99

MLB The Show 24's Mike Trout going to bat
Still the best of the best / San Diego Studio

It’s a new year with refreshed ratings, but Mike Trout retains his top spot and 99 OVR rating once again as the game’s star outfielder. Or centerfielder, to be precise, since MLB The Show 24 condenses positions into infield or outfield. Anyway, Trout’s rank is hardly surprising. The 32-year-old’s play record is littered with awards, All-Star Team picks, and achievements, including the Player of the Year award and Hank Aaron award. He won that one twice.

Mookie Betts (Outfield, L.A. Dodgers) – 99

An excellent outfielder and an even better batter / San Diego Studio

Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts got an upgrade this year, from 97 in MLB The Show 23 to 99, tied with Trout. His high vision and batting ratings make up for lower contact scores, which seems a bit contradictory. He’s brought 200 fewer runs in his career than Trout. That’s the magic of video games I guess.

Aaron Judge (Outfield, N.Y. Yankees) – 99

Yet another top-ranked outfielder / San Diego Studio

Judge’s injuries might hamper his 2024 season in real life, but in MLB The Show 24 Land, he’s still one of the best. The Yankees’ centerfielder is, once again, coming in with a 99 OVR rating, which is hardly surprising from someone who broke records left and right in his rookie year alone.

Ronald Acuna Jr (Outfield, Atlanta Braves) – 99

Acuna Jr. gets a big step up this year / San Diego Studio

And here we are with another 99 OVR outfielder, Ronald Acuna Jr. It’s a big boost for Acuna Jr., who started The Show 23 with a much lower 92 rating, and a proper reflection of his outstanding performance last season. There’s a reason people call him the star of the National League East now.

Shohei Ohtani (Pitcher, L.A. Dodgers) – 99

MLB The Show 24's Shohei Ohtani preparing to throw a ball
Surprising no one, Ohtani is the year's best pitcher / San Diego Studio

In yet another move that comes as a surprise to likely no one, Shohei Ohtani is the top-rated pitcher and also retains his 99 OVR from MLB The Show 23. Some call Ohtani the Babe Ruth of the 21st century, citing his exceptional record as a hitter and pitcher, and that’s not just exaggeration. In 2023, Ohtani became the first player in MLB history to end the season with 40 runs and 10 wins and the first player to win the MVP award by vote twice, among other recognitions.

Corey Seager (Infielder, Texas Rangers) – 98

He's great at basically everything / San Diego Studio

Corey Seager gets a big boost from his The Show 23 rating, going up from 92 to 98, which is nice to see, as the 23 rating seemed a bit unfair. Seager was just off the high of being an All-Star for two consecutive years, following his Rookie of the Year award in 2016. Anyway, if you want a star infielder with good batting clutch, he’s your man.

Spencer Strider (Pitcher, Atlanta Braves) – 97

MLB The Show 24's Spencer Strider
Hot on the heels of a strong year, Spencer gets an even better OVR  / San Diego Studio

Spencer Strider is having a good spring in 2024, and The Show 2024 acknowledges that. The Braves pitcher only made his debut in 2021 and doesn’t have the litany of awards that some of his peers do, but he did manage to break the record for getting 100 strikeouts in a season the fastest in 2023. Later that year, he broke his own record for getting 200 strikeouts in a season the fastest.

Yordan Alvarez (Outfield, Houston Astros) – 96

MLB The Show 24's Yordan Alvarez holding a bat in his right hand
He does some pretty amazing things with that bat / San Diego Studio

Alvarez gets a slight boost this year, up from 95 in The Show 23. Despite being an outfielder, Alvarez more recently started making a name for himself as a batsman, scoring 31 home runs in the 2023 season and 77 regular runs.

Austin Riley (Infield, Atlanta Braves) – 96

MLB The Show 24's Austin Riley
Not a star batter, but pretty good at everything else / San Diego Studio

Riley joins the trend of getting a boost in The Show 24, with a slight bump up from 94 to 96. He performs well in almost every category, though a combination of good-but-not-great stats and some poor batting drag him down slightly lower than his contemporaries.

Gerrit Cole (Pitcher, New York Yankees) – 95

MLB The Show 24's Gerrit Cole
A big boost for the record-breaking pitcher / San Diego Studio

Cole gets one of the biggest bumps this year, up to 95 OVR from 2023’s 89. You won’t want him as a batter – unsurprisingly, since he’s a pitcher – but he’s got some admirable pitching stats, especially when it comes to velocity and stamina. While Cole doesn’t have as many accolades as The Show 24’s other top players, he did start his 2023 season with a little record breaking, as a treat: The most strikeouts from a Yankees pitcher on opening day.
