Total War: Warhammer 3 best Greenskins units
Hardly any other faction has the same claim to fame and is as iconic to Warhammer’s setting as the amalgamation of Orcs, Goblins, and Trolls that make up the Greenskins – Games Workshop is pretty much the reason why they look and behave the way they do in most fantasy settings they show up in. Naturally, the Greenskins are one of the factions included in the first Total War: Warhammer title right from the start and have since then received many updates and additions.
If you’d ask an Orc, they’d of course tell you that “'der iz no wun betta at WAAAGH! dan ‘da boyz” – and it’s true that the Greenskins have a fearsome reputation. They are a savage lot, often fully focusing on their brute strength, but they don’t lack a certain cunning and cleverness (especially the often oppressed and abused Goblins, who despite their small stature have about double the Orcs’ brains; don’t tell them we said that).
Without further ado, ‘ere are 'da best boyz 'n total WAAAGH! warhamma 3. Sorry, that British hooligan slang they’re using for the Orcs gets me every time. Properly, this time: Here are the best Greenskins units in Total War: Warhammer 3. WAAAGH!
Best Greenskins units in Total War: Warhammer 3
Best Greenskins melee infantry: Black Orcs
Black Orcs are ‘da biggest, meanest an’ strongest of all the Orcs. They wear heavy armor and come equipped with mighty great axes that deal armor-piercing damage, which makes them into one of the most fearsome infantry units in the game. You can give them some upgrades through the Greenskins’ Scrap mechanic, making them even more potent. Their only weakness is their slow speed, which combined with their lack of shields makes them an easy target for missiles with armor-piercing qualities.
Best Greenskins ranged infantry: Night Goblin Archers
Night Goblin Archers are an excellent ranged support unit. While they don’t have much firepower against armored targets, their poisoned arrows weaken any unit they hit, enabling your melee troops to get an advantage. Their built-in Stalk ability as well as Vanguard Deployment makes flanking a lot easier.
Best Greenskins melee cavalry: Night Goblin Squig Hoppers
Night Goblin Squig Hoppers are mobile anti-infantry units with lots of armor-piercing damage as well as poison attacks, which allows them to debuff enemies on top of charging them. In addition, they’re not bothered by psychological effects, making them a lot more reliable than other Greenskin cavalry.
Best Greenskins ranged cavalry: Forest Goblin Spider Rider Archers
Forest Goblin Spider Rider Archers are pretty similar to Night Goblin Archers in that their overall firepower isn’t the strongest. However, their high mobility and poison attacks make them very effective at supporting the main battle line by softening enemies up and debuffing them.
Best Greenskins chariot: Orc Boar Chariots
Packing armor-piercing damage and an anti-infantry bonus, Orc Boar Chariots are a lethal danger for enemy infantry lines. Thanks to their high health, armor, and charge bonus, good control of these units will keep them alive for a very long time, persistently endangering the opponent.
Best Greenskins war machine: Snotling Pump Wagons (Spiky Roller)
This version of the Snotling Pump Wagons is not just an absolutely hilarious contraption, it’s one of the rare units that is able to not just deal armor-piercing damage, but that can actually sunder armor, thus reducing a unit’s defenses entirely. This war machine is perfectly suited to charge into lines of heavy infantry to disrupt and weaken them before they close with your own melee troops.
Best Greenskins warbeast: Squig Herd
Squig Herds aren’t great, but they’re a cheap and relatively cost-effective option to get some armor-piercing damage into your army in the early stages of the game. Just keep them tightly under control as you charge in and out of the fray, since you don’t want them rampaging at the wrong moment.
Best Greenskins monstrous infantry: Stone Trolls
Stone Trolls and River Trolls are pretty similar overall. The big difference is that Stone Trolls are a bit more resilient, while their aquatic counterparts provide an aura around them that debuffs enemy melee attacks. That’s no doubt useful, but their additional resistance to magic and missile damage as well as their bonus armor make Stone Trolls a very solid frontline unit to bring to the field.
Best Greenskins monster: Rogue Idol
From knights to city walls, nothing can stand against the Rogue Idol – a haphazard construction made from junk that was filled by the spirit of a WAAAGH! and awakened for the sole purpose of creating even more rubble. With 150 armor and 16,000 HP, this is one tough monster. It comes with armor-piercing damage and an anti-infantry bonus in addition to causing terror. Their only weakness is their slow movement, which makes them a prime target for artillery and missile units.
Best Greenskins artillery: Doom Diver Catapults
Doom Diver Catapults are absolutely silly: They launch a Goblin equipped with a set of artificial leather wings, who then steers himself into the target to cause damage. They are actually really powerful, as their armor-piercing projectiles have a lot more accuracy than many other pieces of artillery, which makes them effective against high value targets. Plus, if you enter a Doom Diver Catapult’s first-person view, you can actually control the flying Gobbo all by yourself.
Best Greenskins Regiment of Renown: Krimson Killerz
The Krimson Killerz, a band of Black Orcs clad in distinctive crimson armor, are the best melee infantry unit in the game in a one-on-one scenario. With 110 armor they are very resilient, while they deal armor-piercing damage with an anti-infantry bonus. They are also Armed to da Teef, which means that they deal cleave damage, enabling them to effectively cut through entire lines of infantry in a quick manner.
