Ulrika Magdova is a free addition to Total War: Warhammer 3 coming with update 3.0 alongside the Mirror of Madness game mode and the Forge of the Chaos Dwarfs DLC. She is a legendary hero character and a bit of a unique figure in the game, as she’s an order-aligned vampire fighting alongside Kislev or the Empire.

Turned into a bloodsucker against her will, the young noblewoman adapts to the situation and sticks to her ideals, which is to fight for her people against the forces of evil. In the game, Ulrika is a worthwhile addition to your armies: Alongside boosts to campaign movement speed and Public Order, she provides her services as a capable fighter and sorceress. She dual-wields rapier and dagger in melee, carries a bow to deal damage at range, and commands the Lore of Shadows.

To be able to recruit Ulrika Magdova in Total War: Warhammer 3, you must first claim her through your Creative Assembly account, for which you can find a step-by-step guide under the link.

Once that’s done, follow the instructions in this guide on how to recruit Ulrika Magdova as Kislev or the Empire in Realms of Chaos or Immortal Empires.

How to recruit Ulrika Magdova as Kislev

Ulrika is originally from Kislev, being the daughter of Ivan Straghov, a Boyar commanding one of the marches on the borders of Kislev and thus a frequent fighter against Chaos incursions. Her appearance is clearly inspired by her Kislevite heritage in the game.

Here’s what you need to do to recruit Ulrika as Katarin, Kostaltyn, or Boris in Realms of Chaos or Immortal Empires:

  1. Reach level 11 to 12 with your Legendary Lord / Reach turn 15 to 30 (the quest seems to show up randomly now in this time window, or our experience gain in the preview build was simply very consistent).
  2. Complete the “Slaughter on the Steppes” quest by building a Frozen Outpost, which requires a Tier 3 main settlement.
  3. Complete the “Bait the Bloodborn” quest by amassing 15,000 Gold.
  4. Choose to recruit Ulrika in the decision following the completion of the quest.

How to recruit Ulrika Magdova as the Empire

Ulrika’s relationship with the Empire is a bit tenuous in her books, as she decides to get in on a plot to kill Karl Franz at one point before realizing she’s getting betrayed. Ultimately, though, she fights for humankind and thus can reasonably join up with the Empire against threats by Chaos and the undead.

Here’s what you need to do to recruit Ulrika as Karl Franz, Balthasar Gelt, Markus Wulfhart, or Volkmar the Grim in Realms of Chaos or Immortal Empires:

  1. Reach level 11 to 12 with your Legendary Lord / Reach turn 15 to 30 (the quest seems to show up randomly now in this time window, or our experience gain in the preview build was simply very consistent).
  2. Complete the “Slaughter on the Steppes” quest by building Tall Walls, which requires a Tier 3 main settlement.
  3. Complete the “Bait the Bloodborn” quest by amassing 15,000 Gold.
  4. Choose to recruit Ulrika in the decision following the completion of the quest.
Ulrika comes with two legendary items and the unique Gabriella von Nachthafen follower / Creative Assembly

You can fulfill the conditions for recruiting Ulrika as both Kislev and the Empire and then decide to execute her instead of recruiting her – lore-wise that’s likely the choice Kostaltyn and Volkmar, two religious fanatics, would make. If you go down that route, you will gain +15 Growth and +10 Public Order for ten turns factionwide as a bonus. You would, however, miss out on a badass character.
