The Legendary Lords included in the Total War: Warhammer 3 Shadows of Change DLC have been revealed alongside the release date of August 31, 2023, and a whole bunch of other information – included in that are the new units you can expect to see in the game for Grand Cathay, Kislev, and Tzeentch.

In total, a dozen additional units will join the existing rosters, bolstering them for the battles to come. We’ve combed through the trailer to find images for all of them, so here’s your first look at all Total War: Warhammer 3 Shadows of Change units.

TW: WH3 Shadows of Change – Grand Cathay units

A Celestial General leading a Cathayan army into battle / Creative Assembly

Celestial Generals are a new Lord type for Grand Cathay, acting as aggressive frontline fighters. Armed with bulky warhammers, they can smash any foe and help your troops by anchoring the line against even the heaviest onslaught.

The Jade Lions are pretty easy to spot, but you can also see a black Jet Lion charging on the right side of the image / Creative Assembly

Jade Lions are a new monstrous unit with some affinity for magic, helping you recharge the Winds of Magic during battle. Their powerful bodies are weapons all by themselves, allowing them to charge enemy formations before devastating them with magical flame attacks.

Jet Lions are the counterpart of the Jade Lions, a monstrous anti-magic unit that buffs allied spellcasters and manipulates the Winds of Change in a way that increases the miscast chance of enemy mages. Missiles fired on them will be repelled and sent back to the attackers.

We can also see a Zhangu War-Drum on this screenshot, a unit mentioned in the recent Yuan Bo short novel. It has not been announced by Creative Assembly as a unit type coming with this DLC, but might join the Cathayan roster as a new mount option for their sorcerers.

Onyx Crowmen are basically Grand Cathay's secret police and intelligence service / Creative Assembly

Onyx Crowmen are the servants of the Moon Empress, a flying unit that can strike anywhere on the battlefield and is adept at melee combat.

TW: WH3 Shadows of Change – Kislev units

This old witch has some speed / Creative Assembly

Hag Witches are a new Hero type for Kislev. Despite looking old and croaky, these spellcasters are mobile on the battlefield thanks to their chariots, which are pulled by scary The Things in the Woods.

You can see one Thing in the Woods to the left of Mother Ostankya there / Creative Assembly

The Things in the Woods are fast beasts that excel at killing off infantry and come with a bunch of bonuses for fighting in forests, as their name would suggest.

Akshina Rangers are adept skirmishers, especially when used in the woods / Creative Assembly

Akshina Rangers wear the skins of bears – shows what they think of Ursun and the state religion – and are strong skirmishers that are fantastic at hiding. Just like The Things in the Woods, they excel at fighting on wooded terrain.

No wonder the Elemental Incarnates of Beasts can terrify their enemies / Creative Assembly

Elemental Incarnates of Beasts are giant avatars of nature. They can channel the Lore of Beasts to put fear into the hearts of their foes before brutalizing them with their gruesome claws.

TW: WH3 Shadows of Change – Tzeentch units

Say hello to The Blue Scribes, a squabbling pair of Blue Horrors with a collection of lost magic scrolls / Creative Assembly

The Blue Scribes, a new Legendary Hero for Tzeentch, are a pair of Blue Horrors collecting all sorts of forbidden and lost sorcery and lore, which they then unleash on the battlefield from their shared Disk of Tzeentch.

Tzaangors bring a bit of a Beastman flair to Tzeentch's roster / Creative Assembly

Tzaangors are essentially beastmen in the service of Tzeentch, powerful hit-and-run infantry you can buff up by casting spells in their vicinity.

If you joke about its name, the Cockatrice will rip your head off / Creative Assembly

Cockatrices are flying monsters capable of spitting out poison and acid to devastate the ranks of any enemy army.

Yep, that's a Chaos beast alright / Creative Assembly

Mutalith Vortex Beasts are true horrors: They are tentacled monstrosities anchored in this world with raw magic and spewing out powerful magical attacks from their corrupted flesh.

Tzeentch will gain another servant when Shadows of Change releases at the end of August, as Aekold Helbrass will join the game with Update 4.0 as a free Legendary Hero.
