If you want to get the fastest horse in TOTK, you can either find a rare horse or upgrade one that you already own. To upgrade a horse, you have to visit the Horse God, Malanya, who you can find at the lake north of East Akkala Stable. If you’re struggling to track it down, we have all TOTK stable locations in that guide.

To kick things off with Malanya, you have to feed the god an Endura Carrot. Luckily for you, there’s a sidequest called The Gathering Pirates that you can trigger by speaking to an NPC at East Akkala Stable – you’ll never guess what one of the rewards are… Yep. Take the Endura Carrot to Malanya and you can start reviving dead horses and upgrading live ones.

But if you want to upgrade a horse in Tears of the Kingdom, you’ll need to feed Malanya a variety of meals first. Here are the ingredients you need to cook them up.

If you want to upgrade your horse’s Strength stat, which makes them more powerful when charging into enemies, you’ll need to give the Malanya the Fried Wild Greens meal.

Upgrading a horse’s Stamina allows it to run faster for longer. However, you’ll need three meals for this one: Vegetable Risotto, Carrot Stew, and Cream of Vegetable Soup.

If you want your horse to be able to pull heavier loads, the Pull stat is the upgrade you need. For this, you need to cook up some Copious Fried Wild Greens and some Veggie Porridge.

Other than the Strength upgrade, which only requires one meal, each of these meals must be cooked three times per upgrade. Time to get the ladle out, Link.
