Zelda Tears of the Kingdom: All Great Fairy locations and how to upgrade armor
If you want to upgrade your armor in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, then you will need to speak to a Great Fairy – or even all four. The problem is that the state of Hyrule has lead them to seal up their bulbs and not emerge for anyone. Anyone except their favorite musicians, of course.
You can find the Great Fairies across Hyrule fairly easily, but opening up their bulbs is tougher, and will require the help of the Stable Trotters. In this guide we’re outlining everything you need to know to upgrade your armor in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and where to find the four Great Fairies.
Each Great Fairy can be found near a Stable, so make sure to check our list of all Stable locations.

How to upgrade armor – Zelda TOTK
Upgrading your armor works pretty much the same as in Breath of the Wild – a Great Fairy will happily upgrade your armor in exchange for materials and Rupees. The material cost isn’t usually too high for the first couple of upgrades, the same goes for the Rupee cost, but it quickly rises.
With each of the four Great Fairies you wake up, they get the ability to ascend your armor up another level. This will also require a great deal of materials, and you just might need to grind for some of them. This is a good reason not to hastily sell the monster materials you collect from battle.
All Great Fairy locations – Zelda TOTK
Woodland Stable Great Fairy Tera location, Serenade to the Great Fairy – Zelda TOTK
The first Great Fairy you can visit is Tera, who rests near the Woodland Stable. Tera wishes to hear the sweet song of a violin before emerging from her bulb. It’s a pretty simple task that involves repairing a wagon, and you can read all about it in our Serenade to the Great Fairy quest guide.
Once you complete the quest you will be able to upgrade your armor by one level thanks to Tera’s power.
Snowfield Stable Great Mija Fairy location, Hornist’s Dramatic Escape – Zelda TOTK
The next Great Fairy can be found near Snowfield Stable, up on the side of a mountain. It’s not too far away, luckily. Mija will only emerge from her bulb if she hears the sound of a horn. You will need to complete the Hornist’s Dramatic Escape quest in order to reunite the Stable Trotters with their horn player.
Once they’re back in business, take them to the Great Fairy during the Serenade to Mija quest and Mija will open up, allowing access to the second level of gear upgrades.
Outskirt Stable Great Fairy Kaysa location, The Flute Player’s Plan – Zelda TOTK
Outskirt Stable is the next location we need to visit. Here you’ll find the Great Fairy Kaysa, and she will only open up once she hears the sound a flute playing. Once again you’ll need to help the Stable Trotter’s prodigal flutist in order to reunite them, and you can complete that with our The Flute Player’s Plan quest guide.
Once Pyper is back in the gang, complete Serenade to Kaysa to open up the third Great Fairy, and the third tier of armor upgrades.
Dueling Peaks Stable Great Fairy Cotera location, Honey, Bee Mine – Zelda TOTK
The final Great Fairy is found near Dueling Peaks, and this one wants to hear some hard-hitting rhythms. You’ll need a drummer. The Stable Trotter’s drum player, Beetz, has wandered off, and you’ll need to complete the Honey, Bee Mine quest in order to bring him back.
Once Beetz is back with the crew at Dueling Peaks Stable, you can complete the Serenade to Cotera quest to unlock the fourth and final armor upgrade level. This Serenade is a bit harder than the others, mind, and requires some aquatic traversal.
