Alone in the Dark release date revealed – it’ll be scaring us in time for Halloween
The release date for the Alone in the Dark remake has just been announced, and it’s sooner than fans were expecting. Prior to the latest spotlight not much was known about the remake of the 1992 classic, but now more details, including the cast, gameplay, price, and pre-order bonuses, have been officially revealed.
Alone in the Dark will be released on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, just in time for Halloween. The remake will feature two protagonists played by Stranger Things’ David Harbour, and Killing Eve’s Jodie Comer. In an interview with GLHF last year, Harbour revealed to us that he was working with Comer on a horror game. “I actually have one [a video game] coming out,” Harbour said. “Me and Jodie Comer did a video game. That’ll be coming out… I think it’s next year. A horror game.” We now know that the game is Alone in the Dark.
While there will be homages to the original game, the remake will tell a new story. Jeremy Hartwood has gone missing, and his niece, Emily Hartwood (Comer), hires detective Edward Carnaby (Harbour) to investigate his disappearance, and the cause of the Hartwood curse.
The gameplay will be a mix of third-person shooting and puzzles, though there will be options to change how many hints you’re given to complete them. Like series such as Resident Evil, ammo will be limited, so you have to choose wisely which targets you take out. In fact, it borrows heavily from Resident Evil’s remake manual, mixing up shooting, puzzles, and survival horror as well, to further increase the tense atmosphere.
For those who want to try out Alone in the Dark before release, there is a free prologue available now for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. The prologue, Grace, doesn’t feature any combat, but will give players a taste of the horror atmosphere that Alone in the Dark provides.
The full release will cost $59.99, and pre-orders are open now. Those who pre-order will get a special bonus set of skins that features the models from the 1992 original. Players who pre-order will be able to play the game from the beginning with these polygonal models in the usual HD space. The feeling we got from the spotlight is that the team is trying to inject some humor into Alone in the Dark, instead of playing it as straight horror.
