Assassin’s Creed Mirage won’t have post-launch DLC
If there’s one thing that Assassin’s Creed games in recent times have been known for, it’s extensive post-launch support, with Assassin’s Creed Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla all receiving years of new content, DLC, and updates. While that meant you could keep playing those games for a long time after their release, it also meant the already-massive games got even bigger, and even more bloated.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage is bucking that trend, in more ways than one. The upcoming game, which has been dubbed a “return to the roots” for the series and has been favorably compared to the first Assassin’s Creed and its first sequel, already has a smaller map than recent games, with a map size comparable to Revelations and Unity.
It’s also been revealed that there are currently no plans for post-launch DLC or content after the release of Assassin’s Creed Mirage. As reported by Press Start Australia, director Stephane Boudon confirmed in a Reddit AMA that there likely won’t be any major expansions for the game in the future, with Boudon outright saying “Mirage has no plan for DLC or extensive post-launch”.
That’s great news, as it seems Ubisoft wasn’t joking when it said that Mirage was a much smaller, much more traditional game — a breath of fresh air for a series that has stagnated with bloated releases for far too long. There’s a lot more to be excited about too.
In an interview with GLHF earlier this year, Assassin’s Creed Mirage animation director Benjamin Fox spoke extensively about making protagonist Basim Ibn Ishaq fast, agile, and powerful. The game takes a lot of influence from earlier Assassin’s Creed games, but also samurai, Jedi, and more to nail down the quick, engaging combat and movement.
And for those that want a more tactile experience, Assassin’s Creed Mirage will support OWO’s haptic vests, which are said to provide over 30 different sensations through specialized electrical pulses. A new version of the vest will even be inspired by Basim’s in-game outfit, which is pretty cool.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage is set to launch on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S on October 12, 2023.
