Larian is hard at work on cross-platform Baldur’s Gate 3 mod support, the studio’s head of publishing said, so those PC-exclusive mods will eventually be on your PS5 and Xbox Series XS as well. Eventually.

Larian’s Michael Douse said there’s no timeline for when the team might have a working version of BG3’s cross-platform mod support ready, but he did say it should launch later in 2024.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is way too horny

“We generally don’t talk about things til they’re ready, but we’re making an exception,” Douse said on Twitter. “We’ve been working on a robust, cross-platform plan for mod support to be released later in [the] year.”

“We have a system but it needs to be tested and still requires work. We’re excited about it. I understand that it suck’s when the game is updated and mods break. Our community teams will start talking with and looping in modding community. For now, work continues.”

That last part was specifically addressing issues with BG3 patch 6, which broke several popular BG3 mods. Such issues are common with patches and updates, though some fans were less than pleased with it.

Since mods involve adjusting system and game files, most of which you can’t easily or legally access on consoles, they tend to stay on PC only. Some developers find ways around these limitations, and Bethesda even integrated full Skyrim mod support on consoles. Larian dabbled with selective console mods for Divinity Original Sin 2 as well, bundling some of the most popular ones into “gift bags” that were then distributed for free to all players, even those who played it on Nintendo Switch.

Baldur’s Gate 3 speedruns are already down to ten minutes
